Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathaniel La Fera.
Hi Nathaniel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story is simple I believe every client has the right to have the most amazing, beautiful, and healthy hair that they desire. I’m a second-generation hairdresser with more than twenty-four years of experience. My motivation is to educate my clients to feel better about their hair by giving them the tools and confidence they need to be the best versions of themselves. My expertise is in Healthy Blondes, Hair Extensions, and Men’s grooming. I am a master at them and pride myself on solving my client’s problems with a custom Solution.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have always skipped to my own beat and with over two decades in the hair business, most of the challenges I have faced were staying true to myself, style, and beliefs, in an industry where most follow the crowd or hair trends. My goals were always to simplify the hair experience and focus on the overall health of the hair while giving my clients the style they desired. I look more like a car mechanic than a typical hairdresser so getting people to buy into my brand and approach has been a bit challenging for me. When clients get passed my unorthodox approach and trust my expertise, they are never disappointed in their results. You will never leave my chair saying I didn’t really learn anything about my hair today. I pride myself on making the complex simple.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional problem solver, better known as a hairdresser. The specific skills I’m sought after are hair extensions and creating healthy blonde hair. I have traveled the globe perfecting my skills as an educator, stylist, and extension specialist. I have spent my adult life helping people achieve amazing results with their hair through coaching and some basic hair hygiene skills. When my client has that “aha moment” after learning how to maintain proper hair hygiene and product regimens for daily hair health, it’s very rewarding. Most first first-time clients have never been adequately trained on how to maintain the health of their hair. The conversation is usually foreign for them to not only discuss the right cut and color but to hear about how to properly maintain their hair instead. When you come to me for hair, it’s not just a service you will receive but an experience. If you are looking for someone who can take your problem with your hair and give you a custom solution, I’m your guy. The La Fera experience is unique in our curated and custom approach.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Like many so many businesses, I learned to pivot during Covid. We, unfortunately, had just opened our salon and had to close it only three weeks later due to the crisis. During this time, we did our best to accommodate our clients the best we could with hair kits, emotional support, and doing what we could given all the restrictions. It was a difficult time and it meant a lot to me that my clients all came back once they were able to. The biggest lesson I learned was how important it is to maintain customer service and make the best of situations out of my control. The silver lining for me was using my time away from the day-to-day of the salon to perfect my own product line. I’m proud to say that the LaFera essentials product line has become a cult phenomenon.
