Inspiring Conversations with Matt Velez of Obscure Rides

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Velez.

Hi Matt, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from New Jersey and moved here two years ago. As a car nut since the age of 3 living in Florida is quite nice. The year-round nice weather and lack of snow are great for all types of vehicles – especially for longevity. I’ve also found the people of Florida to be very nice. The best part is many people here are car crazy too!

I also own a building services company and a TV production company. The TV production company works with big names in TV.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road thus far.

As you know, we’re big fans of Obscure Rides. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I have a car friend from Nocatee that owns a TVR 280i and he can literally fix and sort any car (especially if he’s daily driving a car like a TVR) and as a result, we’ve partnered to create our boutique consignment shop of cars called “Obscure Rides.” We are located at 6236 US1 in Saint Augustine. Part of what we do is purchase rare unique vehicles and place them for sale. We also rent them for events, restaurants that want attention, and realtors who have a high-end listings.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in choices. Choices ultimately create our fate.
