Daily Inspiration: Meet Ryan Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Brooks.

Hi Ryan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I could remember, I’ve always been interested in music. My mother told me that I told her I wanted to be Michael Jackson when I grew up. I started playing guitar when I was 12, took lessons for 2 years and then taught myself the rest. I’ve played in numerous bands growing up and have been actively playing the bar scene in Charlotte NC for roughly 10 years prior to relocating to Wilmington NC back in January 2022. I’m releasing 3 new albums this year, 2 of which will be released on May 20th, 2022 (Eastbound and COVERS EPs). My next project PROPAGANDA is expected this fall.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life always has its ups and downs, but I’d say the biggest struggle has been trying to prove myself to close family members who don’t believe that music is a “real” career. I’ve put my all into everything I’ve released so just would like to be taken seriously as an artist.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am constantly creating. I’ve played guitar for many years so typically begin writing music on the guitar and then will add lyrics, For my most recent project PROPAGANDA, I was provided several beats from a producer in Germany for which I already had lyrics written and simply added them to the beats. This is a hip-hop project so is somewhat out of the norm for me. I’m very proud of this album and think it showcases a different side of me as an artist.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Always keep an eye on your 6, as people will take advantage of you in a heartbeat. I usually only trust those that are in my close circle of family and friends, but even then I am guarded.
