Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessielyn Wade.
Jessielyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was ten years old, I remember using a polaroid camera for the first time. This was the beginning of my lifelong passion for photography. From disposable cameras to 35mm rolls being developed at the local drug store, I have been capturing moments in time for many years.
My parents were big on travel, and we would often take family trips in our van or annual trips to New York with my grandmother on the Greyhound bus. These trips were always filled with great memories and photos. The photo of us at Niagara Falls with my grandmother, parents, cousins, and siblings is by far one of my most memorable photos.
It was because of the emphasis my parents placed on travel and photography that I developed such a strong love for both. And to this day, I continue to explore the world through my lens and capture lasting memories for myself and others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. It has not been a smooth road for Jess Creating Memories, which was established in 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia, or Jessielyn Wade Photography, which was established in 2020 in Jacksonville, Fl. I was challenged with obtaining clients and marketing my business from the beginning.
However, I was determined to succeed and took classes, attended workshops, and worked with the media team at my church to gain experience with lighting and positioning. Due to my hard work, Jess Creating Memories and Jessielyn Wade Photography has grown and is growing into a successful business that captures cherished memories for clients through beautiful photos.
Jessielyn Wade Photography is a photography studio that was opened in May of 2020, just two months after the death of my mother. The studio is a source of strength for me, as it was my mother who was influential in its creation and who excitedly encouraged me – even though she never got the chance to see it in person.
I know that she is with me every step of the way and that her love fills the space. A studio is a place of healing for me, and I hope that it can be a source of strength and comfort for others as well. Jessielyn Wade Photography is more than just a business – it’s a labor of love and a testament to the power of following your dreams.
Any creatives out there can attest to the difficulties of establishing yourself in a new city. When I first moved to Jacksonville, FL, I quickly learned that making connections and networking is essential to finding work in the photography industry. However, just as I was starting to get my foot in the door, the COVID pandemic hit, and suddenly, all of my plans for networking in person went out the window.
As a result, I had to get creative and find new ways to connect with other photographers. I started spending more time on social media, reaching out to other creatives online, and participating in virtual meetups and events. It was a steep learning curve, but slowly but surely, I started to build up a community of fellow creatives.
And although it hasn’t been easy, I’m grateful for the opportunities that social media has afforded me during this challenging time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a wedding and portrait photographer, I understand the importance of capturing memories that will last a lifetime. That’s why I offer a 3 step consultation process to help minimize anxiety, build confidence and create a relaxed environment.
I believe that each experience should be catered to suit all of my client’s needs. I am confident and comfortable with each session, and pride myself on being able to show the essence of true love. Whether it’s a wedding, portrait session, or any other special event, I will work closely with you to capture the memories that you will cherish forever.
My work is unapologetically bold and rich and is a reflection and unique perspective. Just like me, it is full of love. It captures the confidence and candor that are essential parts of who I am. When you look at my work, you see all of the love and boldness that I have to give. And that is what makes it so special to me.
What I am most proud of is my studio, but also what happens outside of the studio walls. Over time, through years of hard work expanding my client base and building connections throughout the photography community, I am creating a name for myself.
And this would not have been possible without the constant dedication and an undying commitment to my craft. There is no greater reward than seeing how deeply impacted my clients are by their experiences with me. Creating memories and moments that last a lifetime has been the most rewarding.
When you book a session with me, you can expect a unique and personalized experience. I believe that the experience should be just as important as the final product. That’s why I take the time to get to know my clients prior to picking up my camera. It all starts with a questionnaire that helps me to understand your unique style and vision.
Then, we’ll have a consultation to further discuss your goals for the shoot. I believe that forming a rapport is essential for creating beautiful, natural images. You shouldn’t be worrying about the camera on the day of the shoot! My goal is to make you feel comfortable and confident in front of the lens, and that all starts with getting to know you beforehand.
So when you book a session with me, know that you’re not just hiring a photographer – you’re booking an experience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
No luck. Just hard work and dedication.
