Today we’d like to introduce you to Casper “CHISongwriter” Alexander.
Hi Casper Alexander, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first fell in love with music at a young age. My older brother and mom would always play music from Hip-Hop to old school R&B. The first two artists that made me want to rap were Jay Z & Lil’ Wayne. I started trying to record music on my computer with just a mic and a voice recorder.
Later, my best friend EJAY got his home studio equipment. We started creating songs and ended up with a hit “She Bad” that did over 100K plays on Myspace. We sold out a couple of hometown venues and eventually opened for New Boyz. We later started an entertainment label that lasted for about 5 years called D&V Entertainment.
Within that time, we opened for artists like Lil’ Wayne (dream come true), Big Sean, Lil Dicky, Tech N9NE, Machine Gun Kelly, Post Malone, and so many more. I did a lot of these shows while in school at Monmouth College, then transferred to graduate from Western Illinois University. We all eventually went our separate ways.
Today, I’ve built 8 brands within the last few years. 2 Clothing Brands (Love Myself Clothing & Eye Heart 2 Clothing), a jingle writing company (The Jingle Firm), a marketing & brand consulting company (Casper Consulting), a small music fest (309 Fest), an event curating brand (Where The 309 Meets), an Executive Producer brand (Project 803), and of course my music and songwriting (CHISongwriter).
I’ve also ventured out into acting and poetry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t see success ever being a smooth road. Dealing with egos (your own included), figuring out finances, & finding time for more than your career are some of the biggest road bumps I’ve run into.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I like to call myself a Creative Entrepreneur.
As I sit and think about what I specialize in, I’d say it’s brand awareness. I say this because if a person knows me, they are most likely aware that I am in the creative field. Music is what I’m known for the most. All of my brands have benefited from me starting out as a rapper.
I am most proud of my never giving up. I love my work ethic and the belief I have in myself. I also feel that’s what sets me apart from others. If I want to do something or try something, I just do. I truly believe success comes with being happy in your overall decisions and I can say I’m successful.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I listen to a lot of podcasts and youtube channels about the music business and theories around life. My two favorites are Earn Your Leisure & The One You Feed. They both give me a balance of work knowledge and life knowledge,
