Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Montiel.
Hi Melody, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Jacksonville and North Carolina! I’ve always had a major love for all things artistic and I always knew I wanted to open my own business!
I’ve always had a love for style and fashion so hair & makeup and the clothing industry naturally became a major interest of mine. Once I got into the hair and fashion industry I fell in love. I knew I not only wanted to just sell clothes and do hair, but I wanted to make dreams come true.
When someone comes to my hair studio or wears my clothing I want them to feel the most confidence they’ve ever felt. I love being a part of someone’s journey to self-love and that motivates me every single day!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has most definitely not always been a smooth road. Even though I absolutely love what I do and coming to work every single day is easy which I know I’m so lucky to say, there have been a few setbacks. I’ve had some bad bosses which ultimately taught me all the things I don’t want to do.
I believe it’s true of most people but I’ve been told no a million times and that I won’t be successful with what I’m trying to do. I won’t lie when I was younger I used to get to be a little more but the longer I’m in the industry and the longer I dive into my passions, I become more and more motivated and sure of what my goal is!
Now their words are nothing more than motivation. I know now that not everyone is always going to see your vision and that’s okay, it’s not their vision to have.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Smoke&Shear Studio is an intimate luxury hair experience. I have a private studio in which I perform all of my hair services. I specialize in color and cutting! I love having a private studio because I get to cultivate each client’s experience specifically for them.
I’m able to make it a space that anyone is comfortable in no matter what! In addition to that my company Smokeshow Collective is an online shop that specializes in clothing, jewelry and so much more to come in the future!
I like to call Smokeshow collective a confidence brand because if you’re having a day where your confidence is low I want you to be able to put on my pieces and get that extra boost and on the days when you’re at 100% and feeling yourself I want my pieces to just enhance that!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have a few but one of my favorites is going to Disney World with my cousins and my aunt and uncle regularly and I would always make my cousin let me style her for the day.
I would pick out her outfit and do her hair and makeup as we grew. She was basically my Barbie doll growing up
