Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Simms.
Hi Ariel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I originally started making music as an artist-songwriter in 2009. I began performing all around Jacksonville and surrounding areas. As an artist myself, I eventually began to record many other artists and build relationships with those in the community.
In 2013, I took a break from music and relocated to Florida State University for school. I graduated from FSU in the spring of 2015 and begin getting on the music scene in Tallahassee. After rebuilding my name as an artist-songwriter, I begin to drift into the producer and host role. Hosting Facebook lives as well as showcases in Tallahassee, FL. In 2018, I relocated to Orlando to complete another degree in Sound Technology from Valencia College.
There I not only met many creative minds, but I also fell back in love with music and the business side of music. In 2020, I moved back to Jacksonville with a mission to create a safe space for artists and creative minds alike, and with the help of my business partner created “The Catch My Vibe Tour.” “The Catch My Vibe Tour” has been putting on shows for a little bit over a year now with our latest show being at The Justice Pub in downtown Jacksonville on March 26th, 2022.
The Catch My Vibe Tour is a network of talented artists, DJs, producers, and other creatives that come together to put on curated artist concerts and events. We truly believe in giving the audience an experience each show and want them to not only walk away with good vibes but to be open to experiencing new ones.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I think every entrepreneur knows that this is all a learning experience. You learn and grow day by day. Nobody truly has it all figured out, but the exciting thing is that we get to keep creating and growing as a team.
For us as the Catch My Vibe Tour every show has been a learning experience. We constantly have meetings to discuss what went well and areas we can improve in. We’re learning about rates, contracts, permits, etc.
As an artist, we would just show up and perform but to be the ones orchestrating the shows we have a newfound appreciation for event planners and those behind the scenes. There are so many moving pieces when putting together a concert and patience, execution and vision are the keys to getting to the end goal.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a rapper, engineer, producer, and songwriter. I love being on stage or in the studio. If I could describe my sound, I would say I make “vibe” music. However, I’m feeling I express it in my music. I like to make music for every occasion and never try to box myself in.
I love blending melodies and keeping audiences guessing about what I’m going to come up with next. I specialize in rapping and am most known for songwriting and performing. I am most proud of the growth my team and I have made over the years. It took us a lot to get to this point and there were many times we could have given up, but we didn’t.
Although we know this is still the beginning after over 10 years of doing this, we’re excited that so many things are coming full circle. Pay your dues and putting in your 10,000 hours is a must. Even “overnight” success took years to make. Just have to keep progressing day by day.
I believe that’s what sets us apart from others. We haven’t quit and as we get older, we’ve learned the art of pivoting toward purpose. Keep living and you’ll get to your destination.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on my journey is to always remain true to myself. Stay genuine in all you do and don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith.
