Rising Stars: Meet Alexys Mead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexys Mead.

Hi Alexys, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story starts right at the beginning of Covid in May of 2020, I have always wanted to be a content creator but I never knew how to get started, was nervous about what others would think, and I also felt that I lacked the self-confidence needed to do what content creators do. I was talking one day with my boyfriend’s sister who is a content creator and she was giving me all these tips and basically told me to go for it and that’s exactly what I did!

Starting my journey in May was probably the best time for me to start as the world pretty much couldn’t do anything, I had the time to do the research and get inspiration from other content creators. I started taking pictures in places I felt were safe and places that didn’t have many people around because I lacked the confidence and felt like I didn’t know what I was doing. Over the next couple of months, I felt more comfortable and my content began to take off.

A couple of more months passed by and I began reaching out to different brands and asking if I could create content for them, there were many no’s but it only takes a couple of “Yes” to expand your portfolio. When working with brands, they send you a list of criteria of what you have to post or talk about and what they expect. It is then my job to figure out how I can incorporate that brand’s products into my feed and fit my aesthetic.

This is sometimes the most challenging part because you have an idea of what you want to do, you have to figure out how and where you can make this idea come to life. I lot of time and thought goes into what content creators post and I don’t think many people realize that.

There is research that I do to find what times are best for me to post, what hashtags relate to what I’m posting, what songs are trending on Instagram Reels and TikTok, and making the Instagram and TikTok algorithm work to my advantage.

Over the 2 years, I have been a content creator, I learned so much about myself, what style I like, I have been to connect with some amazing people and brands, which just makes me excited for the rest of my Instagram journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say for the most part it has been smooth sailing, but there have been road bumps along the way. When having a job in social media, can become super consuming and almost negative in a way.

You watch all of these other people have these amazing lives or amazing trips or amazing bodies and you think to yourself why can’t I have it like that. I have taken some time off of social media to collect myself before and be in the moment and not just in the cyber world.

I would do it again because my mental health comes first. I always remind myself that social media is just a highlight of everyone’s lives and I have to live my life for what it is. I am living life to my aesthetic not what others’ aesthetics are.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a content creator and that means that companies will send me products and I will take pictures wearing their products, styling their products, or showing how the products work.

I specialize in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, I am known for creating content from brands that I would buy from, I will not accept a collaboration request from just any brand. I am most proud of all of the brand collaborations I have gotten.

I love all of these brands so much and all their products are amazing being able to create content for them is what I am most proud of.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is creating content, I feel like that is where I am most myself. Being in front of the camera or behind the camera is what makes me happy. I get to let my creative side through and I get to be myself and I get to post what I like.

I get to let people see the world through my eyes and I am able to show people what goes on in my life. I express myself through what I wear and what I do and that makes me happy. Finding new places where I live to take pictures allows me to get out of my comfort zone and explore and expand my horizon, this makes me happy because I am growing by getting out of my comfort zone.

Emailing brands whether their answer is yes or no makes me happy because I am pushing myself to work harder and be more creative and find inspiration in everything I see or do.
