Exploring Life & Business with Veronica Jennings of Glory Covering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Jennings.

Hi Veronica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My love for herbal medicine began when I live in California at the tender age of seven years old. This is where my mother and grandmother introduced herbs to me and began to teach me about them. As I got older, I believed herbs were the best remedy for any health-related illness.

If I became sick, my mom would give me some concoction of a variety of herbs mixed together. Most of which did not taste all that good. As a matter of fact, my worst memory of herbal medicine was turpentine. The taste was horrible!

It was said long ago that turpentine was an herbal folk remedy used to expel worms from your digestive tract. And considering the fact that it was given to me, I must have had worms. Childhood memories tend to leave a lasting impression on most people.

My fondest childhood memory was of me and my brother Joseph visiting a local health food store with our mother. She would purchase rolled dried apricot for us. We absolutely love it! It tasted like candy. It was one of the few things we enjoyed as children. I also recall in the seventies that my mom purchased a book of herbs titled “Back to Eden” by Jethro Kloss. Without my mom knowing, I would take the book from her shelf and read it for hours sometimes. This became my base of knowledge for herbs. As an adult, this book became my main resource for natural herbal remedies.

My mother who was a Registered Nurse in Los Angeles California, knew the health benefits of Holistic health. My mother relocated to Folkston Georgia in 1976, Whereby, I later followed in 1988. This began my love for gardening and herbs. Which eventually evolved into a healthier lifestyle. As I learned more about the health benefits, I began to examine what I was using in my hair. This eventually led me to denounce hair relaxers. And other products with harsh chemicals.

What I learned was that a lot of chemicals in hair relaxers and hair dyes were linked to certain cancers in women, (e.g breast cancer). After discovering this I sought out natural remedies for hair care. On November 14, 2014, I made a decision to rid my hair of all harsh chemicals, by cutting off all my hair. This led to the birth and creation of Glory Covering LLC.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The challenges I face:

1. Lack of funds.
2. Lack of time.
3. Difficulties balancing growth and quality.
4. Marketing and web presence.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Glory Covering is currently a home-based/online business. Our goal is to eventually expand.

A lot of girls/women use harsh chemicals in their hair regimen. Unfortunately, a lot of products out there contain mineral oils, sulfates, that damage your hair and skin. With Glory Covering, you can be assured that every item you purchase is made from healthy, natural sources.

We seek to share the purest and warmest joy, happiness, trust, and gratitude to each and every person who experiences our products. Every item is crafted by hand and heart. Our promise is to source ingredients with integrity and mix them with a pinch of love. Our company passionately supports the use of natural hair products, and our mission is to spread this advocacy, one girl/woman at a time.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next five years, Glory Covering will transcend the online retail space and become available at over 100 Targets stores nationwide. Other national retailers will include Walmart, Sally’s Beauty, Whole Foods, Walgreens, and CVS locations. Over the next ten years, my brand will expand to other countries.
