Conversations with Zaria Hathorn and Hailey Willard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaria Hathorn and Hailey Willard.

Hi Zaria and Hailey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My sister and I love to read. Our mom has been reading to us since birth and that, in my opinion, has helped me develop a love for reading. My sister and I were lying in bed one night giggling about something when this idea came about. We presented the idea to my mom and she agreed it would be great. She personally doesn’t want us to be on social media but we all agreed to be on it in a positive way would help light the world.

Our main purpose is to read a book of our choice each night at a designated time so that children can have a bedtime story each night. We are already reading each night but we thought it may be beneficial for children who don’t get this luxury. Parents sometimes work late or are too tired for stories. We are not only helping children, but we are also giving parents a nice break after a long day of work.

We are 16 & 11 now, so we don’t read every single night now. We shoot 3 times a week. In between, we still educate on black history, provide reading tips, and make fun of Reels on Instagram.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been plenty of challenges and struggles. What our fans don’t know is that when we started our reading program our parents were going through a divorce. Reading became an outlet for us in such a positive way.

Not only was it helping other people it was helping us cope with our feelings. We know our parents were put here to create us and we were meant to create great things for others.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our work is quite unique. We are a team of sisters who really enjoy reading and providing resources to the community. We are most proud of all the people who are inspired by us.

We love going to events and kids coming up to us and saying how much they want to continue developing their reading skills. Our most memorable moment thus far had to be going to the Rachael Ray Show.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We are so overjoyed by what we do. We are really looking forward to one day meeting Michelle Obama. She is such a graceful woman and we love her so much! She is who inspired us alongside our mom.
