Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Thompson.
Cassie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always loved to have an organized space and enjoyed organizing spaces for others and have found myself organizing since I was a child
In previous positions I often found myself organizing spaces used by multiple people in order to make the spaces work more efficiently and allow everyone to find what they need when they need it, increasing productivity. After having my first child and I spent some time evaluating what I really wanted to do for my career, what really made my heart happy while also fitting in with my strengths and skillset.
I quickly realized that what I needed to do professionally was what I did at every employer… organize spaces for maximum productivity and efficiency, create systems, and solve problems that work for everyone who uses those spaces. That is my heart and I feel so fortunate that I am able to do what I love while also helping people in their spaces (work and home).
I have my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Business Administration, which I feel is very helpful in running my professional organizing business since there are a lot of emotions involved when dealing with our things and our spaces. Prior to starting my business, I worked in case management, social work, and medical office management which also helped me develop the skill set I use in organizing spaces for others.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, it has been pretty smooth since I did have a lot of informal experience.
I have joined professional organizations such as the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals and Institute for Challenging Disorganization to make sure I continue to learn and provide my best to each of my clients as well as network with others in my industry.
The hard part has been navigating the ins and outs of running a business and navigating growth. I’m learning what can and should be outsourced so I can continue to provide my best to my clients. It’s also very important to me and my brand that the people that work with me are a good fit.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Serene Spaces Professional Organizing and Consulting, LLC?
I have a wonderful team that works with me on most projects. We help people move from a place of overwhelm and chaos to a place of calm and order. We frequently hear “I don’t know where to start” and we can help with that. We ask questions and use our expertise to create systems that will work for each person or each family’s lifestyle, work style, home, and habits.
Our specialties include: working with people who are chronically disorganized, unpacking and organizing after a move, pre-move downsize and prep, as well as working with busy families that need some organizational systems in place but simply don’t have the time to do so.
I am proud of the fact that we create functional systems and adapt our services to each individual client’s needs and budget with a great deal of empathy and knowledge.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I grew my business very organically, I was raising one young son at home, and not long after starting this adventure, I was pregnant with my 2nd.
My priority has been and will always be my family so as we continue to grow, I try to remind myself of why I started the business, to begin with. I wanted to have the freedom to make my schedule and spend time with my family as well as to be able to help others in their spaces.
I guess my advice would be to make sure you know your goals and stay true to what is important to you and the right clients will find you.
