Conversations with Raymond S. James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymond S. James.

Hi Raymond, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I got started with my business Package Pally, after an Amazon package, which was delivered to my home, was stolen right off my front Porch.

It was then I began looking online & in stores for a solution to the problem of package theft, but did not find any. I then went into my garage & built the first prototype of Package Pally, which is a device to protect packages from theft or damage.

After proving my device works & seeing a need for a solution to the problem of package theft, I applied for a U.S. Patent & Trademark, & was granted such. I then found a manufacturer to make my devices & they are now available for sale at packagepally.com & Amazon.com.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles were finding a Patent Attorney to assist in obtaining the Patent since the process can be complicated & oftentimes cost a lot. I was fortunate enough to find a Patent Attorney willing to work with me although I had limited financial resources.

Finding a manufacturer was also a struggle. I contacted several companies that said no until I found one that said yes, to make my Devices. Also as a new startup, making yourself a household name is a challenge but I will do my best to get my product into the hands of people & companies who need it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a trained Electrician & I work as an Electrical Technician at a hospital. I am most proud of attending college, at Florida State College at Jacksonville & majored in Biomedical Engineering Technology. What sets me apart from others is when I see a problem, I look for a solution but if I don’t find one, I’ll make one.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is, growing up close to the beach, in my Birth Country of Trinidad & Tobago, & going every weekend to swim & play.
