Meet Nick Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Garcia.

Hi Nick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started playing the guitar about 15 years ago when I was around 11 years old. My sister got a guitar for Christmas one year, but I decided that I wanted to pick it up. After practicing for a few years, I felt confident enough to start collaborating with others.

I’ve been in a few bands in Jacksonville throughout the years, but most of my time was spent in an indie folk/rock band I started called, “Weekend Atlas”. That band was a ton of fun and I had incredible experiences playing in it. I was able to book a tour for 2 weeks up the east coast and that was probably the highlight of my time spent in the band.

I started writing more and more of the music and lyrics and felt like I wanted to push myself musically.

I decided that I didn’t want to just be a guitar player, but I wanted to be a frontman. I started “Lost Club” a few years back and it went through a metamorphosis from a garage-rock/post-punk three-piece (basically just trying to sound like The Strokes) to a one-man act that has a more indie-pop/synth-pop feel (e.g., The 1975, MGMT, Tame Impala, Boy Pablo).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve definitely had a few struggles in my musical career. “Lost Club” is currently a solo project, and that has its pros and cons.

I really enjoy creating music and being able to tame it to my personal taste. Though I don’t have anyone to bounce ideas off of and I can box myself in musically at times. I think the biggest struggle has been being confident in myself as a musician and singer.

I feel confident with a guitar and I know that I’m decent at playing it. However, learning how to sing and challenging myself to become a better singer has been really difficult. Some days, I feel like I’ve come really far with my singing, and other days I feel extremely lacking in my ability.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a musician and my current musical endeavor is called “Lost Club”. I just released my second EP and had my first live performance to celebrate the release of the EP.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think I have to be in tune with my creativity. If I push myself too much with my writing the creativity won’t be there. I have to know when to take a break and come back later in order to create good and creative music.
