Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Quigg.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! Thank you! My name is Sarah Quigg and I practice as a Licensed Practitioner and Therapist in Saint Augustine Beach, Florida. How it all started, my father broke his back when my mother was 9-months pregnant with me, so at age seven, because of his disability I was exposed to a wonderful mentor, Sister Ann, who was a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Nun. I knew right then that this was the “job” I wanted to do. Being raised in the church, I learned that service and helping others was what my life purpose was meant to be.
Fast forward to my teens, I experienced a major traumatic event, which re-introduced me to intense trauma therapy and this once again reinforced God’s plan for me, and now I practice in that same therapist’s office space. I went to school to study Clinical Psychology to become a Mental Health Practitioner/Therapist/Doctor and flourished in that environment as I received graduating all Honors throughout my graduate career.
So, after being qualified to sit for my board exams, I was crushed when I missed the mark by 1 point. This is one of the first times I didn’t succeed in this field. This brought me pain and despair which filled me with doubt and confusion. Not knowing what to do I began to write. The writing brought me relief as this is something I had always done to self-soothe. I started to share my writings on Instagram and people responded with such positive and healing remarks, and this began to heal me as well as getting connected with other people through vulnerability and love.
This helped me so much I thought I could help others. So, I began to create this company during a global pandemic, now known as Heart-Centered Thoughts, through transforming my pain into purpose. I then broadened my focus to this way of being able to help the masses in addition to individual therapy which I’ve always loved. I started to create a self-healing product line and an Instagram/Social Media following to give away and equip people with emotional, mental, and spiritual tools necessary to heal themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many of us, I was raised in family system infused with generational trauma and addiction. My father was 100% disabled and a Vietnam Vet. As a teen, I had experienced a traumatic home invasion which left me feeling disconnected from the essence of self. As I began to do my own inner work, I felt empowered.
This led me to a deep dive into understanding my family of origin and the foundational blueprints that had shaped my past, present, and relationships.
I learned that what I had experienced in that family system had the capacity to create painful moments, wounds, and traumatic experiences and if I didn’t name, recognize or acknowledge some of this stuff, I was highly likely to re-create it, wherein the therapy world we call these the paths of opposition, repetition or integration. I’ve learned that our work is to integrate, where we can begin healing and moving towards transforming our lives.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Absolutely! I was trained in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University, and I specialize in Mental Health, Addiction, and Trauma. I am known as a heart-healer and a soul-centered psychotherapist, teacher, writer, and soul activist that synthesizes a stream of thought from psychology, poetic and spiritual traditions.
Individuals tend to say that I bring a special type of energy to therapy. I am known to challenge my patients and highlight where they are stuck while encouraging their transformation. Feeling frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy, I created Heart-Centered during a global pandemic when the political instability was causing people to feel unsafe and uncertain, so I began creating a community and other ways for people to connect.
By doing so, the Entrepreneurs’ Herald and The New York City Journal took a liking. With PR attention, Heart-Centered has become world-known, healing readers one heart at a time.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Wild at heart, emotionally attuned, spiritually connected and sensitive! I was a little love bug and still to this day.
At a young age, I found ways to honor my deep inner knowing instead of living in others’ judgment or criticism (usually from peers in middle and/or high school).
I chose presence over distraction and found peace at the beach. I was able to name and gently lean into this exploration of the spiritual self at a young age through writing, which allowed me to be of service to others and model self-love.
