Inspiring Conversations with Megan Gibbs of Serenity Skin Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Gibbs.

Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
So, I actually had planned on becoming a nurse. The whole time I was in high school, I planned on going to school for nursing & becoming a trauma nurse or a peds nurse. When I graduated, I graduated with my CNA license & enrolled in classes for nursing at SJRCC. I finished almost all of my prerequisites but then life happened & I had to put it on hold.

At the time I was working as a CNA at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. I was there for almost 4 years. I absolutely LOVED working there & taking care of the kids but one day I woke up & was like “oh my god. This is not what I wanna do for the rest of my life.” I talked to my mom about it & she was like “Meg, why don’t you become an esthetician!

You’ve always loved makeup & skincare. You’re so good at it.” So I did some research on becoming an esthetician & learning what was in their scope of practice. I jumped at the opportunity to go to school for esthetics. I’ve been in love ever since. I’ve worked at two other spas & decided it was time to work for myself. So I decided to open a salon suite. It has not been easy but I don’t care, it’s so worth it. This is the happiest I’ve ever been (career speaking) lol.

I love helping people love their skin & gain the confidence to be able to go without makeup if they wanted to. I know how it is to be self-conscious when it comes to skin. When someone comes to me struggling with acne & then to see them become so confident in their skin – it’s the best feeling. Making other people happy, makes me happy!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, no. It has not been a smooth road. At the beginning of this year when I was looking for a new job as an esthetician, but couldn’t find somewhere I felt like I truly fit; I became so discouraged & felt lost. Then one day, I was doing some thinking & decided to have some faith & I used all my savings to open my own salon suite. It’s been stressful but so worth it. I wouldn’t change anything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Serenity Skin Bar is located in the Phenix salon suites (OP location). It’s quiet & private. Clients love being able to come in & have the focus on just them from the time they walk in, until the time they leave. Currently, I offer facials, microneedling, nano infusion, dermaplaning, body waxing, microdermabrasion as well as a few add-on services to enhance your treatment.

In the near future, I plan on offering lash services. As well as taking a course for PMU. I specialize in preventative & corrective treatments. I’m constantly taking classes & learning new things. I mainly use IMAGE skincare in my business. I absolutely love it. The results are amazing & so is the formulation of the products. I always want my clients to get the best results possible. I’m very knowledgeable in other skincare lines as well because sometimes what works for you, doesn’t work for someone else.

No one’s skin is the same. I do want everyone to know, my first-time clients get a consultation + facial for only $85 (reg. $99). This includes a thorough skin analysis, we go over what you are currently using at home, lifestyle, diet & future treatments. Following will include a custom facial tailored specifically to YOUR skin type/concerns. After I’ll educate you on a proper skincare routine. Oh, & a free little gift is included!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
When people ask how they can support me, I tell them a simple review, referral or social media share goes a long way! When it comes to collaborating, I haven’t gotten there yet but it’s something I would be very open to doing! So if anyone out that wants to collaborate, email me or shoot me a DM on Instagram.
