Today we’d like to introduce you to Maritere Ramirez De Arellano Berrios.
Hi Maritere, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Maritere but people know me as Mary Madeinhell I’m 38 years old I was born in Puerto Rico and moved here to Jacksonville 6 years ago, I started doing makeup at a young age but only started doing it professionally around 12 years ago and I started Cosplaying around that time too.
My first job as a makeup artist was working and doing makeup for Halloween and so on it became a thing and I started working for a haunt in Puerto Rico and 9 years later I’m still working in haunts ever since, but Makeup and cosplay is my passion.
Now, I make cosplays for myself and others, I have been a Cosplay Guest and a Makeup Artist guest for events here in town, you know trying to get my name out there so people know my art and what I love to do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Uff struggles, where many, one coming from Puerto Rico, one of the main reasons I moved to Florida was to have a better and more stable life financially speaking, me and my husband we were struggling financially and we needed to have a better life so we packed up-sold our house and moved here and it’s been amazing the progress in 6 years.
As far as work-wise, I was lucky to find a job I love and new friends who I can call family. I would say that has been the biggest struggle we’ve had.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Makeup artist, Cosplayer, Prop Maker, Fabricator a famous Youtuber, and Tiktoker wanna be hahaha, I do makeup from bridal to monsters you name it and I make cosplays and costumes so I and others can be anything they want to be for a day or two.
I love building sets for Haunted houses, movies, or photography and I am most proud of my accomplishments here from being recognized as a makeup artist and cosplayer in the creative communities to being invited as a guest for events and makeup and cosplay panels.
What does success mean to you?
Success is not defined by how much money or things you have, for me success is doing what you love, having the time to do it, and being able to have fun doing it. For me, success is also being able to help the up-and-coming artists and having a platform to do it.
