Hidden Gems: Meet Dasia Brown of Crawl, Walk, Run: From Teens To Queens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dasia Brown.

Hi Dasia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
In 2018, the founder Dasia Brown was still a sophomore at the University of North Florida. While attending the university as a Child Psychology major Dasia took a strong look at our community and thought “there is always room for growth”.

From an intense conversation with her mother then began the birth of “Crawl, Walk, Run: From Teens to Queens, Inc”. The mission and the startup of the organization started slowly in terms of traction and with the right team and determination, a beautiful organization was formed in May 2019.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Crawl, Walk, Run: From Teens to Queens is a non-profit organization with a mission to advocate for teens to become emotionally, physically, and socially self-reliant. Our purpose is to uplift, empower, teach, and support teens in our community assuring they have a safe space in us by reducing the stigma put upon them by circumstance. CWR is committed to ensuring all children thrive.

We focus on improving access to early childhood experiences. By enhancing their learning experiences, educational resources, and healthy developmental well-being. The purpose of the organization is to develop leaders and protect the mental, emotional, and physical health of families in underserving communities with or without a home.

Since the pandemic, we lost our volunteers, fundraisers, events, and sponsors. But we took that time to research and get into our communities and continue to do the work hands-on. After falling in love again with our mission and our community we decided that our youth have not been able to have access to early childhood experiences, they do not have the luxury of being children!

When you are low income you are not focused on providing experiences for your child to have fun but to keep them safe, alive, and well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Crawl, Walk, Run: From Teens To Queens, Inc?

We are a small woman and minority-owned business that continues to take donations to fund our mission.

We are currently raising funds to organize a week-long event for kids in low-income homes and households of 6 or more individuals with an income only fit for 2-4. The money will allow us to not only pay for transportation, lodging, food, supplies, merchandise, activities, and more. But we are also advocating for funds to provide the families with groceries for the week. Your donation means the world to our world and more information can be found on all platforms.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I personally do very well with conducting thorough research and bringing all of my information to the table. I am someone who will take a sheet of information and turn it into a book. I find myself receiving a lot of my assistance by attending other events, simple google searches, or reaching out to major organizations like “The nonprofit center” and attending workshops they have available.

Pricing:

  • Sponsor a youth to attend our retreat for $125
  • We also have partial sponsorship for $65
