Community Highlights: Meet Sylvia Walker of Heirs II The Throne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Walker.

Hi Sylvia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a survivor of domestic violence. I was taken by my ex-husband on a dark road to be murdered and a survivor. After getting out of that abusive marriage, I had to reprogram my brain to think more highly of myself and increase my self-esteem.

So, I started therapy to heal from the broken places in my mind and memories of the abuse. I started working in corporate America and the stress of the job caused me to be released due to absentees related to stress. I prayed for my purpose to be revealed and the name Dainty Treasures came to mind. I wasn’t quite sure what it meant at the time but later discover my love for fashion. I started to design clothes and order from other designers that lead me to open a boutique. From that point, it was uphill from there in the fashion industry. Since starting Dainty Treasures, I met so many women in broken places due to relationships and just life in general.

I started hosting women empowerment brunches to encourage women to break the mental cycles of being stuck in dark places. It prompted me to start a nonprofit organization, Heirs II The Throne. Which is an outreach ministry geared towards helping people to become a better version of themselves. We host conferences for financial literacy, home buying and so much more to the community. I also am a published author of Pray About which can be purchased at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The book consists of prayers to help people heal mentally and spiritually.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been smooth sailing. There are times when I surely have wanted to throw in the towel and needed breaks. However, my clients and the demand from people have made me realize that I must continue.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
What sets me aside from others as it relates to my nonprofit organization is my testimony of survival. People have a tendency to gravitate to those who encountered near-death experiences. It’s like I got a second chance at life to help other people accomplish their goals and move from past pain.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always full of life. I actually won the best personality in middle school. I won talent shows for singing and was always loved by people.
