Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared & Lauren Bowser.
Hi Jared & Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Honestly, there was no “A-ha moment”. I didn’t have an affinity for cameras starting at the age of 5, I didn’t go to school for it and never really aspired to do it. I was just bored. I was living in a small town in Nebraska, and one day I decided to walk around the town of 8.,000 people with a camera and take some photos. It just kind of snowballed from there.
Years later, I relocated to Chicago where I met some photographers that were kind enough to let me shadow and learn from them. I eventually got a job at a company called Trunk Club doing their marketing photography. That was a very formative time where I learned most of the techniques I still use to this day. When I got married, I relocated to Jacksonville, FL and dove into weddings full time!
My husband and I started working together shortly after we got married in 2015. His background was primarily in music, but it’s great to see him use his creativity in this outlet as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There is always a pretty big learning curve when you are first getting started. Building a company from the ground up is a slow process. I booked six weddings in my first year in business. The following year, I doubled it. We are currently booking between forty and fifty weddings a year. Now the challenge is finding the right balance between working too much and having a life apart from it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a husband and wife duo specializing in wedding photography and videography. I think I’m most proud of having a business that keeps growing over the years. As an entrepreneur, your career can sometimes feel like it could disappear at any time (insert 2020 & Covid here, ha), but I’m really proud that now at 10 years in business, we’ve not only established ourselves locally, but internationally as well.
How do you define success?
Being happy with where you are.
