Rising Stars: Meet Angel Mae Glutz of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Mae Glutz.

Hi Angel Mae , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Art has always been a passion of mine. When the idea of being a female tattooer was more unlikely than winning the Lotto, I had a notebook of every tiny bit of information I could find on the industry. I started this notebook in 2002 without internet access. A couple years later, I showed this notebook to my tattoo artist and asked him what was missing. He gave me some pointers, I made some adjustments to the drawings that were in there, and he set an appointment for me to meet with the shop owner. This was in New Albany, Indiana in 2004. I got the green light but only as long as I didn’t act “like a chick too much.” Two years and a whole lotta life happened but in the summer of 2006, I finished my apprenticeship and have been tattooing ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been anything but a smooth road. The tattoo industry has evolved immensely during my career. So, every time I get one problem licked, a new one emerges. When I first entered this industry as a shop girl 25 years ago, my gender was my biggest obstacle. Now, I struggle with staying active on social media. Lots of bumps and bruises along the way but I just can’t imagine any other career for me. Being able to make art for a living is truly my dream come true.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been tattooing for over 20 years, after finishing a formal tattoo apprenticeship. I specialize in illustrative linework tattoos. I am known for my attention to detail and the very special relationship I have with my clients. It’s honestly that relationship that I am most proud of and what sets me apart. I can confidently say I have the best clients in the industry!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Oh, for sure! I’m the only Angel Mae Glutz on the internet. So, if you would like to get tattooed by me or see more of my work, I’m only a simple search away.
