Rising Stars: Meet Roma Oxford of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roma Oxford.

Hi Roma, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story began in 2019, when my husband opened Oxford Ink Tattoo. I was there from the beginning, watching an idea turn into a real, living space, and that’s when I fell in love with creative branding.

I quickly realized that a tattoo studio is so much more than a place to get inked. It’s a feeling. Every detail tells a story: the logo on the door, the artwork on the walls, the way a client is greeted, even the way an aftercare card is designed. I became fascinated by how these small choices shape a first impression and turn a business into a community people want to belong to.

Helping build the Oxford Ink identity taught me that good branding isn’t about being flashy. It’s about being honest and consistent, and about making people feel something. Tattooing is deeply personal, so the brand has to earn trust before a client ever sits in the chair.

What started as supporting my husband’s dream became a passion of my own. I dove into design, storytelling, and visual identity, learning through hands-on experience, trial and error, and plenty of late nights. That passion grew into Roma Creative Company, where I now share everything I’ve learned with a wider audience.

Today, you can find Roma Creative Company on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, where I create content about branding, design, and building a business with personality. Instagram is where I share the visual side of branding, YouTube is where I go deeper with tutorials and behind-the-scenes stories, and TikTok is where I share quick tips and the real, unfiltered moments of running a creative business.

My goal is simple: to help small business owners, especially creative entrepreneurs, build brands that feel authentic, memorable, and true to who they are. It all traces back to that first moment in 2019, standing in a new studio and realizing how powerful a brand can be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, no, it hasn’t been a smooth road.

The biggest struggle has been internal. I have social anxiety, and putting yourself out there on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok is not exactly the easiest path for someone who gets nervous in front of people. Showing my face, sharing my work, and hitting “post” took a lot of courage in the beginning.

I also struggled with comparison. When you work in a creative, visual industry, it’s easy to scroll through other people’s highlight reels and feel like you’re behind. For a long time, I measured my progress against everyone else’s, and it drained my confidence.

What changed was learning to grow at my own pace. I stopped asking “why am I not where they are?” and started asking “am I better than I was last month?” I practiced showing up even when I felt uncomfortable, and I learned that confidence doesn’t come first. It comes from doing the scary thing again and again. The anxiety hasn’t vanished, but it no longer runs the show.

Now that I’m in my 30s, I can say I truly love my life. I know myself better, I’m kinder to myself, and I’m building something that is mine. If my story helps someone who’s struggling with anxiety or comparison feel a little less alone, that makes every uncomfortable moment worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Roma Creative Company, I help small business owners and creative entrepreneurs build brands that feel authentic, memorable, and true to who they are.

My work centers on creative branding: visual identity, brand storytelling, and the little details that shape how people experience a business. I share what I’ve learned on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, from design tips and behind-the-scenes looks to honest conversations about what it’s really like to build a brand while managing self-doubt.

What I’m known for is making branding feel approachable. I came into this world through hands-on experience, not a textbook, so I explain things in a down-to-earth way that real business owners can actually use.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come personally. Someone with social anxiety, who used to compare herself to everyone, now shows up on camera, shares her work, and helps others do the same. Building Roma Creative Company while learning to be kinder to myself is the accomplishment I’m proudest of.

What sets me apart is that my approach comes from real life. I learned branding by watching a tattoo studio grow from the ground up, so I understand that a brand is personal. It’s about trust, emotion, and community, not just a pretty logo. And because I’ve struggled with confidence myself, I bring empathy to every client and follower. I don’t just want your brand to look good. I want you to feel proud of it.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice: start before you feel ready.

I waited far too long to show up because I was afraid my work wasn’t good enough or that people would judge me. The truth is, nobody has it all figured out when they begin. Your first posts, your first videos, and your first designs will probably feel awkward, and that’s okay. They’re the foundation for everything that comes after.

Stop comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle. I wish I had known that the polished accounts I was admiring had years of messy practice behind them. Compare yourself to who you were last month, not to who someone else is today.

Be consistent, not perfect. Showing up regularly, even on days when you don’t feel confident, builds trust with your audience and with yourself. Small, steady steps add up faster than you’d think.

Let your story be part of your brand. Your personality, your experiences, and even your struggles are what make you different. People connect with real, not flawless. For me, being honest about social anxiety turned out to be a strength, not a weakness.

And be kind to yourself along the way. Growth takes time, and there will be days when it feels slow. I wish someone had told me earlier that it’s okay to go at your own pace, as long as you keep going.
If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be this: you don’t have to be fearless, you just have to be willing to begin.
