Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Sidders.
Hi Tyler, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Grew up military around lots of my dad and his friends having tattoos,was always given drawing supplies and working on art to cope with child abuse from my beiological mother at a young age,Struggled with finding an apprenticeship through early 20s,finally got one in western New York and achieved title of tattooer just six months before Covid happened.Moved my life to Daytona Beach where my stepmom/who I consider my mom took me in til I could find a shop and get on my feet,Been a full time tattooer and artist for seven years now .
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Mental health struggles,world events ,finding access to an apprenticeship and the apprenticeship journey itself ,surviving through covid and now a struggling economy while trying to find my voice and clientele in tattooing .
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Tattoo artist specializing in highly illustrative and graphic tattooing with Japanese /horror/comic book things and a strong American traditional background as far as my teachings.One of the last to have a true old school type apprenticeship where I spent four years running and learning a shop and tattooing a history and its tools from the ground up.Growing up military and moving often makes me highly adaptable and approachable .While having a sales background gives me an edge on customer service in an industry not know for artists being “people persons”
