Rising Stars: Meet Sher Clemmons of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sher Clemmons.

Hi Sher, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a kid I grew up in Virginia hanging out at the salon with my grandmother who did hair for 40 years. This lead me to take cosmetology during highschool and ultimately graduate with my cosmetology license and high school diploma.
After doing hair for 3 years in Virginia, I decided it was time for a change and moved to Jacksonville in 2016.
In 2020 I opened my own business- Sher Loves Hair, which currently operates in the Riverside neighborhood of Jacksonville at a collective studio called The Knack Shack.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were a lot of struggles being in a big salon at the height of COVID. A bustling salon when many employees and clients at the same time became less attractive to me. At a time where one on one interactions were almost mandatory, I was inspired to start my one person business and to really tailor things to a quieter and calmer experience.
I always knew I wanted to be my own boss and I’m so thankful I took the leap to do it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sher Loves Hair was created with queer and neurodivergence at the forefront. I curate a comfy environment for folks who struggle to find that in typical salon spaces. You’ll find ambient lighting and truly cozy vibes.

I am passionate about collaboration with my clients. I have the tools and expertise to make their dreams come true, but they are the ones that get to wear that hair every day. It’s my job to listen to their wants and needs and bring that to life.

I specialize in razor haircuts, gender affirming haircuts and vivid hair colors.

My pricing model is a bit different from the traditional salon. My service pricing is super transparent, it is time based and gratuity-free. This means the price of your service is based on the amount of time you are in the chair- no extra fees.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I offer sensory friendly options like silent appointments, low lighting, dry haircuts and product-free haircuts. Clients also have an assortment of blankets, stuffed animals and fidget toys to make their appointment the most comfortable possible.

Pricing:

  • Shercuts $110 per hour
  • Shercolor $120 per hour
  • Relaxation sessions- $1 per minute
