Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Brooks.
Hi Jillian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I started Violet Grace Floral, I had absolutely no experience in the floral industry. I never imagined something like flowers would become my career. After moving to Sneads Ferry, I was surrounded by so many inspiring women who had built successful small businesses. Watching them pursue their dreams made me realize I wanted to create something of my own—I just didn’t know what that would be.
One of those local business owners invited me to sell flowers at her annual fall market. I said yes before I had any idea what I was doing. She encouraged me, shared advice, and helped me navigate those very first steps of starting a business. I’m incredibly grateful that she believed in me enough to give me that opportunity.
From there, I poured everything I had into learning, growing, and finding my own style. I spent countless hours practicing, making mistakes, and discovering what made Violet Grace Floral unique. Over the years, the business continued to grow beyond anything I could have imagined—from weekly bouquet deliveries and weddings to bringing home my little flower van, which has become such a special part of the business.
Looking back, it’s amazing to think that something I started with zero floral experience has turned into a career that allows me to be part of so many meaningful moments in people’s lives. I’m incredibly thankful to this community for embracing my business, supporting my growth, and trusting me with everything from everyday bouquets to life’s biggest celebrations. It’s been such a rewarding journey, and I’m excited to see where it continues to grow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any small business owner, there have definitely been challenges along the way. For me, the biggest has been overcoming imposter syndrome. Starting a business in an industry where I had no prior experience meant there were plenty of moments where I questioned whether I was good enough or capable enough.
Over time, I’ve learned that growth rarely comes from staying comfortable. Some of my biggest lessons have come from taking leaps of faith, embracing trial and error, and accepting that mistakes are simply part of the learning process. Instead of trying to become an expert overnight, I’ve focused on improving one step at a time, learning from every wedding, every bouquet, and every new opportunity.
Looking back, I’m proud that I’ve allowed myself to grow slowly and intentionally. While there have certainly been challenges, the journey has been incredibly rewarding, and each experience has helped shape my business into what it is today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Violet Grace Floral, I specialize in creating natural, garden-inspired floral designs for weddings, events, and everyday moments worth celebrating. While weddings have become a large part of my business, I also love creating bouquets for birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, and even “just because” occasions. Flowers have a way of making ordinary days feel special, and I love being a small part of those moments.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a specific arrangement—it’s the relationships I’ve built along the way. Sneads Ferry has become home, and being trusted by so many families, couples, and local businesses means more to me than I can put into words. Seeing returning clients, receiving referrals from past couples, and watching my little business become part of this community has been incredibly rewarding.
I think what sets me apart is that I truly care about creating something personal. I don’t believe flowers should feel like a one-size-fits-all product. Every wedding, bouquet, and event is thoughtfully designed to reflect the person receiving it. I also strive to make the process approachable and enjoyable, especially for clients who may not know much about flowers. I remember what it felt like to be new, and I want every client to feel comfortable, excited, and confident throughout the process.
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to create beautiful florals that make people feel celebrated while building genuine relationships that last long after the flowers are gone.
How do you define success?
To me, success isn’t measured by how big my business becomes or how many weddings I book. Success is working hard, loving people well, and bringing a little more beauty and joy into the lives of others.
It’s having the courage to chase dreams that once felt impossible and taking time to appreciate the moments I used to pray for. It’s being surrounded by an incredible family, wonderful friends, and a community that believes in me and continues to support my journey.
I feel incredibly grateful that I get to wake up each day and do work that genuinely brings me joy. Even more than that, I have the privilege of being part of some of life’s most meaningful moments—celebrating marriages, welcoming new babies, honoring loved ones, and helping people express love through flowers. Being trusted with those moments is something I’ll never take for granted.
To me, that’s success.
