Today we’d like to introduce you to Giants Of Atlantis.
Hi Giants Of Atlantis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! Our band started in 2018. It began as something that was just a fun hobby amongst friends but it grew into something bigger over time. As we started to write more music and practice them, we started to enjoy what we were hearing. After many years passed and members came and went, the music always continued to grow slowly. Every show we played, we put our full energy and concentration into performing because we want people to see that we can be the metal band you would want to see on any stage whether its a local show or maybe a music festival someday.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, to say the least. We had to deal with members leaving over the years and finding new members. Doing this while still continuing to write music and keep the band really tests someone’s resolve to see something through to the end. Since there are no jobs for performing musicians, we have to pay out of pocket to afford to be able to do the things we need to do. Things like studio time, equipment repair, parts, and even gas for driving to the shows, these are things that we do because its investing in ourselves. But its tough to remain strong as the world shifts towards AI music and people wanting instant music at the push of a button. Its tough but we believe in ourselves and we keep going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a metalcore band. We are proud to say that we have been performing in the area since 2019 and have gone as far between Brunswick, GA and Melbourne, FL. We have plans to release more music and we would love to go on tour and perform our music for crowds needing an experience that they can keep with them for a lifetime.
There are a lot things that set us apart from the other bands around us starting with our band’s name. The band’s name “Giants Of Atlantis” came from a long discussion of what we could write our songs about. Since we live near the beaches, why not create a story about something related to the vast ocean? So the storyline began about Atlantis and the mystery that surrounds it. With so many theories on what happened, we figured we would make our own story. So we wrote songs about a lost civilization being destroyed by sea monsters but we also made sure we used our song writing and lyrics to reflect that story perfectly. We have songs that may sound crazy at first but when you listen to the lyrics, we are also speaking about the emotional trauma that occurs with these events and how the listener could imagine and relate to what they are hearing. Now we combine thoughtful lyrics with fun guitar riffs, pounding drums, and screaming metal vocals that might scare your neighbors. But that’s the fun about listening to our music: we want you to have a fun time listening! (even if your neighbors may have difference in opinion)
We have released five singles on all streaming platforms and we have more music to release in the near future.
We are taking it upon ourselves to do as much of our own recording and do as much of our own mixing and mastering.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
As mentioned before, with the rise of AI platforms and AI music, its a very precarious time to be a musician. We are worried that we would need to be competing with machines to even have our music be recognized by anyone. I believe that right now, all artists are starting to come together to realize the real threat to our livelihoods. Because we are becoming more self-aware, I believe we will rediscover our grit and create the greatest music of our time yet. But before it gets there, we have a lot of work to do as a community.
