Meet Latisha Deal of Latisha Deal Health Advocacy Firm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latisha Deal.

Hi Latisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into health advocacy began with a passion for helping people navigate healthcare with confidence and dignity. Throughout my career in public health, health education, and community programming, I saw firsthand how many individuals, especially Black mothers, struggled to be heard, understood, and supported within the healthcare system. Those experiences inspired me to become part of the solution.

I founded Latisha Deal Health Advocacy Firm because I believe everyone deserves to feel empowered to ask questions, make informed decisions, and have an advocate in their corner. My work focuses on supporting Black mothers through high-risk pregnancies, postpartum recovery, and pregnancy loss by providing education, care coordination, and personalized advocacy that helps them navigate complex healthcare experiences with confidence.

Over the years, I’ve continued to expand my knowledge through advanced education, professional certifications, and hands-on community work, always to create meaningful change. Today, I have the privilege of combining my background in public health with my passion for maternal health advocacy to serve families in Jacksonville and beyond.

Looking back, every step of my journey has reinforced one belief: health is not an event; it’s a lifestyle. My mission is to ensure that every mother I serve feels seen, heard, supported, and equipped to advocate for herself throughout her healthcare journey. That’s what continues to drive me every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started, I served women through health coaching, focusing on helping them build healthier lifestyles and prevent chronic disease. While I loved empowering women to take control of their health, I eventually realized that my true calling was much more specific.

After my own personal postpartum experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the gaps that exist in maternal healthcare and the lack of support many women face after giving birth. That experience changed everything. It gave me a new perspective and ultimately led me to transition from general health coaching into maternal health advocacy, with a focus on supporting Black mothers through high-risk pregnancies, postpartum recovery, and pregnancy loss.

Making that shift wasn’t easy. It meant redefining my brand, refining my services, investing in additional education and certifications, and, in many ways, starting over. Building trust in a new space while educating people about what a postpartum doula does required patience, persistence, and faith. There were moments of uncertainty, but I knew I was walking in my purpose.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that sometimes your greatest challenges become the foundation for your greatest impact. My personal experience fueled a mission that is much bigger than me. Today, I have the privilege of helping women feel informed, supported, and empowered during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Looking back, every obstacle was preparing me for the work I’m doing today, and I wouldn’t change the journey because it has allowed me to serve from both professional expertise and lived experience.

As you know, we’re big fans of Latisha Deal Health Advocacy Firm. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Latisha Deal Health Advocacy Firm was created to bridge the gap between patients and the healthcare system, especially for Black mothers who often face disparities in maternal healthcare. Our mission is to ensure that every woman feels informed, supported, and empowered to make confident decisions about her health before, during, and after pregnancy.

We specialize in maternal health advocacy, with a focus on high-risk pregnancies, postpartum recovery, pregnancy loss, and helping women navigate complex healthcare experiences. Whether it’s preparing for medical appointments, understanding diagnoses, coordinating care, or simply having someone in your corner to ask the right questions, we help our clients advocate for themselves with confidence.

What sets us apart is that our work is rooted in both professional expertise and lived experience. I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed and unsupported after giving birth, and that personal journey fuels everything I do. My background in public health, health education, and community outreach allows me to combine evidence-based guidance with compassionate, individualized support. I don’t believe advocacy is one-size-fits-all; every family’s story is different, and every client deserves care that reflects their unique needs.

One thing I’m especially proud of is building a brand that people associate with trust, compassion, and education. I want people to know that advocacy isn’t just about speaking up during a medical appointment; it’s about helping individuals feel confident, informed, and empowered throughout their healthcare journey. Sometimes that means asking the questions you didn’t know to ask. Sometimes it means helping someone understand their options. And sometimes it simply means making sure a mother knows she doesn’t have to navigate one of the most important seasons of her life alone.

As my business continues to grow, my vision remains the same: to improve maternal health outcomes, amplify the voices of Black mothers, and create a healthcare experience where every woman feels seen, heard, respected, and supported. If readers take away one thing, I hope it’s this: you deserve an advocate, your voice matters, and you should never have to navigate your healthcare journey alone.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was definitely the quiet one. I wasn’t always the loudest person in the room, but I was always paying attention. I’ve always been very observant, and I think that ability to listen and notice the things others might overlook has become one of my greatest strengths.

I’ve also loved learning for as long as I can remember, especially anything related to health and science. Even as a child, I knew I wanted to work in healthcare in some capacity. I didn’t know exactly what that would look like, but I knew I wanted a career where I could help people and make a difference in their lives.

One thing that has never changed is my compassion for others. I’ve always had a heart for people, especially those who felt unheard or were being treated unfairly. If I saw someone being mistreated, I wasn’t afraid to stand up for what was right, even if I was naturally quiet. Looking back, I realize that the qualities of being observant, compassionate, and willing to advocate for others were preparing me for the work I do today.

As a maternal health advocate, I often support women during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. My ability to truly listen, educate, and speak up when it matters most isn’t something I learned overnight; it’s a part of who I’ve always been. It’s rewarding to see how those same qualities that shaped me as a child have become the foundation of my purpose and my career.
