Hi Desmond, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Originally from Philly, I’m a Black trans man whose journey has been built on resilience, authenticity, and community. Coming into my identity wasn’t always easy — navigating life openly as a Black trans man came with challenges, judgment, and learning how to confidently take up space in a world that doesn’t always make room for you. Those experiences shaped me into someone who values representation, connection, and creating spaces where others feel seen. Over time, I turned my passion for community, networking, and bringing people together into opportunities through content creation, events, partnerships, and advocacy. Today, I continue building my platform while using my voice and experiences to inspire, uplift, and remind others that living authentically is one of the most powerful things you can do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As a Black trans man originally from Philly, there were many challenges that came with learning how to navigate life authentically while facing judgment, misunderstanding, and spaces where I didn’t always feel accepted. There were struggles with confidence, finding community, dealing with people’s perceptions, and figuring out how to create opportunities when certain spaces didn’t always feel welcoming. Building myself, my platform, and my connections took time, patience, and resilience. Despite those struggles, every obstacle taught me something valuable and helped shape the person I am today. Those experiences are also what motivate me to create spaces where others feel seen, supported, and represented.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work as a junior counselor with a nonprofit LGBTQ+ organization where I support and guide community members and help create safe, affirming spaces. My work is centered on advocacy, connection, and making sure people feel seen and supported.
I specialize in community building, communication, and connecting people to opportunities. I also bring experience from different industries, including running my own junk removal business, working as a licensed armed security officer, and serving as a brand ambassador, all of which helped shape my discipline and people skills.
Creatively, I’m passionate about modeling and acting and have appeared in a couple of short films and web series.
What I’m most proud of is my growth and ability to stay focused on purpose while navigating different paths. What sets me apart is my versatility, lived experience, and the way I combine professionalism, creativity, and authenticity in everything I do.”
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5–10 years, I see a lot of industries becoming more digital, more creative, and more personality-driven. Branding and marketing are shifting toward real people and real stories rather than just corporate messaging, especially with the rise of social media and independent creators.
I also think entertainment and media will continue to grow, with more opportunities in modeling, short-form content, and independent film. People want authenticity now, so I see more demand for individuals who bring real experience, versatility, and unique perspectives into their work.
Overall, I think the biggest shift will be toward flexibility and multi-skilled professionals who can move between different spaces, connect with audiences directly, and build their own platforms rather than relying on traditional pathways.
