Today we’d like to introduce you to April Blue-Moseley.
Hi April, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started about 25 years ago. My mother was experiencing high blood pressure and kidney issues, so since I was the oldest of three girls, I became her caregiver. My dad was there to support me in any way that I needed, but he did not have patience for the frequent emergency room or regular doctor’s visits. Ultimately, my mom became a kidney patient, and the care for kidneys required more frequent doctor visits and, at that time, an additional visit to a dietician. Sometimes, her appointments would end up lasting 2 to 4 hours while she was doing her dialysis or visiting with the doctor. I would sit with her dietician to find all of the care for her kidneys that she needed to continue when she was at home. At first, my mom would have three appointments a week, so her care plan required a visit to the dietician once a week as well. My weekly visits with the dietitian got me to thinking not only about how I can continue to help my mom but also, since I had a similar lifestyle to my mom, how I can prevent something like this from happening to me. While preparing meals for my mom, I started preparing the same meals for myself for convenience so I didn’t have to go home or stop off and buy a meal, and also with a new preventative mindset for my health. The foods that my mom could eat were so restrictive and definitely not flavorful, so I began to venture out and visit different health food stores to learn about healthier seasonings and new ways of cooking. While shopping at the health food stores, I wanted to gather as much information as possible since the stores were so far away from where we lived. I would attend seminars and get free brochures, and I was even recommended several books that I could purchase; however, I found some of the cookbooks and similar books at my local library. My mother was the main cook in the family. Although I didn’t live at home, my mother would still cook for the family several days of the week, so I never really learned how to cook large meals. I now realized that I didn’t learn to cook the way that I grew up eating because I didn’t really enjoy all of the foods that were our tradition. With this newfound prevention mindset and wanting to continue to help my mom support her kidney care, this opened up a new desire for me to prepare preventative but flavorful foods. Fast forward 25 years later, as a certified gut health nutrition specialist, studying to also become a naturopathic practitioner. I’m teaching preventive care recipes to individuals at the Nassau County Council on Aging through 6- to 8-week curriculum-based programs called “longevity foods from around the world” and “holistic health diets.” As a self-published cookbook author and with an online digital library, I am a frequent guest speaker with the City of Jacksonville senior services, local Parkinson’s groups, and local senior care programs like Dedicated Senior Care, where I demo quick and easy recipes for individuals to implement at home as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Loosing my parents have been a challenge, but my mission to live longer and to live well while living longer and to hopefully teach others how to do the same has been the motivation.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Wholistic Health Navigator, LLC?

My mission is to empower individuals with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to navigate their unique path to lifelong vitality.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice would be to volunteer if it is appropriate, to offer yourself to be of service, and to do it as a way to learn your craft or skill or discover a new skill. I volunteered at the Nassau County Council on Aging for several years while I was earning my certification as a certified gut health nutrition specialist. One year ago I was offered to become a contracted weekly instructor, and I have now taught hundreds of students who live and vacation in Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island from around the world.
