Check Out RC Perry’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to RC Perry.

Hi RC, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a military wife, health advocate, trauma survivor, endometriosis and adenomyosis warrior. I began writing to escape reality when
I was around eight years old and wrote my first book at 15. It was a cheesy high school romance that is still sitting in a manila folder somewhere. I never did anything with it. Fearing criticism and failure, I never touched it again and didn’t begin writing again until 2023. From The Ashes, is my debut fantasy romance novel. It’s years in the making and a metaphorical representation of overcoming abuse, religious brainwashing, medical trauma and gaslighting, S/A, and a lifetime full of hardships. My female main character, Remmy, sets out to enter a deadly contest to save her family. During the contest, she endures many physical and mental trials, each one representing one of the hardships I faced from my childhood years until my life-altering surgery in January of 2025. Remmy’s journey will continue in the next book, Prince of Fire, which releases on September 6th, 2026. Prince of Fire is a fade-to-black fantasy romance that delves even deeper into mental health awareness and the effects of PTSD on the mind while using love as the fuel to overcome trauma, in the same way that meeting my husband saved me.
My goal is to use my stories to inspire women who, like me, suffered through childhood abuse, abusive relationships, or debilitating women’s health problems.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced in the writing industry is getting my stories seen by the people who need to read them. As an independent author, I have no big publisher backing me, leaving me to do all of the marketing, advertising, hiring the editor, artists, etc myself while also writing the kind of epic fantasy romance that inspires people. I tell people I wear seven hats because not only am I doing all of this alone, I’m also chronically ill, fighting every day to get my health story seen and running a GoFundMe campaign to attempt to raise money for infertility treatments. I’m constantly pulled in seven different directions and balancing all of the “hats” that I wear can be extremely difficult.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a multi-genre author. My debut novel, From The Ashes: A Kingdom of Beasts & Starlight, is a fantasy romance novel, the first in a trilogy called The Valerian Chronicles. Book two, Prince of Fire: A Kingdom of Love & Darkness, is set to release in September. This series is very epic high fantasy with heavy topics touching on overcoming abuse and trauma.
In the works, I also have a dystopian romance and a contemporary small-town romance. There is no release date for these, but they will also delve into deep topics, exploring the effects of trauma.

What matters most to you?
Finding fantasy readers who need to know they aren’t alone or escape through an epic adventure is what matters the most in my writing. My biggest goal has always been to offer the escape I found in books when I was young, and I’ve had multiple women reach out to me since publishing From The Ashes to say the book did exactly that for them.
