Today we’d like to introduce you to Irina Rahimi.
Hi Irina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Im from Ukraine where my love for art and creativity first began . From an early age I was drawn to beauty , color and self-expression and creating has always felt like a natural part of who I am .
My artistic journey began with a formal education . I first attended an art college where I studied Interior Design . Wanting to deepen my artistic skills I continued my education at the Kyiv Mykhailo Boychuk Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design , where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Monumental and Decorative Painting . Those years gave me a strong foundation in composition , color theory , traditional techniques and the importance of creating art that connects with people and their surroundings .
My journey has taken me through different countries and cultures . After living in Sweden I eventually settled in Florida , where I’ve now spent many years building both my life and my artistic career . Living in different cultures has shaped the way I see the world and continues to influence my work.
I sold my first painting in 2010 and that experience gave me the confidence to believe that art could become more than just a personal passion . Over the years my work has been displayed in restaurants , private collections and homes and I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with local businesses and participate in art festivals . Today I create contemporary paintings inspired by nature , the sea and the emotions that connect us to everyday beauty . My work combines vibrant colors , texture and decorative elements to create pieces that bring warmth and joy into a space .
I believe art should not only be seen but felt and my goal is to create paintings that inspire an emotional connection and become a meaningful part of people’s lives .
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road . Like many artists I’ve had to balance my creative career with family responsibilities and adapting to life in different countries . There were times when art had to take a back seat but I never stopped creating in my heart .
One of the biggest challenges has been building an artistic career from the ground up in a new country. It required patience , persistence and believing in my work even when progress felt slow . Looking back those challenges made me more resilient and strengthened my commitment to pursuing art .
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create contemporary paintings that blend expressive color , rich texture and decorative elegance . My work is inspired by nature , the sea and flowers , transforming familiar subjects into modern compositions that bring warmth and personality to a space .
What I enjoy most is creating artwork that is both visually striking and emotionally uplifting . I want my paintings to become more than decoration , they should create an atmosphere and make people feel something every time they see them .
I’m especially proud that my work has found homes in private collections and has been displayed in restaurants and businesses . Knowing that my paintings become part of people’s everyday lives is one of the most rewarding parts of being an artist.
I believe what sets my work apart is the combination of my academic art training , international background and my passion for creating contemporary art that is both sophisticated and accessible .
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The war in Ukraine has profoundly changed what matters most to me . It has reminded me how fragile life is and how quickly everything we take for granted can change . It also made me realize how important kindness , compassion and genuine human connection truly are .
Despite the pain and uncertainty I haven’t lost my sense of beauty . In fact it has become even more important to me . Today I feel an even stronger desire to create art that brings light , hope and beauty into people’s lives . I believe that in a world touched by so much loss , creating beauty is not only meaningful it’s necessary .
