Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Perrone.
Hi Kyle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Films have always been a huge part of my life. My parents got me into it essentially from birth. As a kid I made my own short films and animated films.
When I got to college, I studied media production, strategic communications, and advertising. I made friends in my classes and we made short film projects together.
After college, I started working for an online orientation company and I filmed their videos. I traveled all over the U.S and Canada filming orientations for colleges such as UCF, Cornell, and Rutgers.
While doing this, I kept working on my personal film projects with some of my friends from college.
Now, I am fully committed to working on film projects under my Extraordinary Being Pictures production label. I recently had my first festival screening in LA for The White Ibis, a short film shot mostly in St. Augustine. I directed, shot, produced, and edited the film. My friend John Kearney wrote, produced and starred in it, and my friend Jes Cook was also a producer. Our film was awarded for best cinematography at the LA Comedy film festival. We are currently working on getting the film into more festivals while developing other projects.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is not easy to go down this road as a filmmaker.. There are always moments where you doubt yourself or that time feels so limited. The way I get passed obstacles to is to remind myself why I do this in the first place by watching films and reading books about film. It gets me energized to tackle challenges and come up with new ideas.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My recent short film project The White Ibis is currently the best example of my work and how collaboration is key to success.
The IMDB page for the film has the logline: “At an illustrious restaurant, a disrespected new employee must deliver a prized sandwich on foot to keep their job and test their mettle.”
The film is currently doing the festival circuit and will be publicly available to view at a later date. John Kearney pitched me the idea for the story and wrote the script. I liked the script and agreed to direct and shoot it. We reached out to Jes Cook to help produce the film and get us a local crew and locations. We also worked with producers Tessa Faye and Shawn Arani to secure funding and find us acting talent.
I am proud of the work we did and I am excited to work with these people again on new projects.
The LLC’s involved are Extraordinary Being Pictures, Golden Dragon Productions, and Tessa Faye Talent.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say don’t be afraid to reach out to people. Cold calling, cold emailing, whatever. The worst thing you can do is stay silent if you want knowledge or advice.
