Hidden Gems: Meet Scott & Liliana Shubert of Walk-in Wedding Chapel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott & Liliana Shubert.

Hi Scott & Liliana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Orlando and felt called to ministry at a young age. That calling brought me to Jacksonville to attend Bible college. After graduating, I went on to seminary and then joined the United States Navy as a Chaplain. Interestingly, the Navy eventually brought me right back to Jacksonville.

During my military career, I had the privilege of serving sailors, Marines, soldiers, and their families around the world. My assignments included serving with the crew that rescued Captain Phillips from Somali pirates and later serving in Iraq as the Base Command Group Chaplain at Al Asad. Those experiences taught me a great deal about leadership, service, resilience, and the importance of being present during life’s most significant moments.

After retiring from the Navy, I wasn’t looking to start a wedding chapel. People simply began calling me to perform weddings. I started marrying couples on beaches, in parks, backyards, and just about anywhere they wanted to say “I do.” Around that same time, I learned photography to better serve the couples I worked with. Before long, I had performed more than a thousand weddings throughout Northeast Florida.

A friend eventually offered me a small space across from the courthouse in downtown Jacksonville. I put up a simple wedding arbor and started performing weddings there. It wasn’t fancy, but couples loved it because it felt personal, meaningful, and special.

Over the next several years, I performed another thousand weddings and learned what most couples were truly looking for. They didn’t want to start their marriage burdened by debt. They wanted a wedding that was beautiful, memorable, and focused on what mattered most, the commitment they were making to one another.

That experience led me to open the Walk-In Wedding Chapel in 2017. My vision was simple: create a place where couples could enjoy an elegant, stress-free, affordable wedding experience without sacrificing beauty, meaning, or quality. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of helping more than 5,000 couples get married.

In 2025, I married my wife, Liliana. Originally from Colombia, she has built a successful career in digital marketing, branding, and lead generation. After years of helping businesses grow through strategic marketing, she joined the chapel full-time as Co-Owner and Chief Marketing Officer.

Today, Liliana leads our branding, website, social media, advertising, public relations, and community outreach efforts. Her marketing expertise, creativity, and passion for helping people have helped us reach more couples looking for a meaningful alternative to the traditional wedding industry.

Together, we’ve combined my background in ministry and service with her experience in business growth and marketing to create something truly special. Our mission is to provide an elegant, stress-free, and affordable wedding experience for couples who want to focus on what matters most: the commitment they are making to one another.

Whether a couple is planning an elopement, a small wedding, a military wedding, or an intimate wedding ceremony, we strive to make getting married simple, meaningful, and memorable. We believe every couple deserves a beautiful celebration without unnecessary stress, overwhelming costs, or months of planning.

Today, the Walk-In Wedding Chapel serves couples from Jacksonville, across Florida, and throughout the country who are looking for a heartfelt wedding experience. For classy, smart couples, our goal is simple: to create an emotional and spiritual experience they will never forget.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggles I faced along the way came from the fact that I’m a chaplain, not a businessman.

I went to Bible college and seminary. They taught me theology, counseling, preaching, and how to care for people. What they didn’t teach me was accounting, marketing, contracts, websites, social media, or technology. The internet wasn’t even part of our lives the way it is today.

When I started building the business, I had to learn all of those things from scratch. Every entrepreneur knows that the business side can be just as challenging as the work itself.

The good news is that I was really good at the part that mattered most. I genuinely love people, I love performing weddings, and over time I learned photography as well. Couples trusted me with one of the most important days of their lives, and that trust allowed the business to grow.

So while I’ve had to learn a lot of things the hard way, the foundation has always been the same: serving people well, creating meaningful wedding experiences, and constantly learning the skills needed to keep improving.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc?

What I’d like readers to know is that we’ve created a different kind of wedding experience.

Many couples today feel caught between a courthouse wedding that lacks atmosphere and a traditional wedding that can become stressful and expensive. We believe there is a better option.

One of the things that makes the Walk-in Wedding Chapel unique is what we call our 5-in-1 versatility. We combine five essential wedding services into one seamless experience: a beautifully decorated chapel, a professional officiant, guided wedding coordination, curated wedding music, and professional photography.

Instead of couples having to find and manage multiple vendors, we’ve designed an experience where everything works together. Our goal is to remove stress and allow couples to focus on what really matters: the commitment they are making to each other.

Over the years, we’ve helped more than 5,000 couples get married, and we’ve learned that most people aren’t looking for extravagance. They’re looking for something meaningful, beautiful, and affordable. They want to feel celebrated. They want great photographs. They want a ceremony that feels personal and memorable.

That’s why our mission is to provide an elegant, stress-free, affordable wedding experience that honors the significance of the moment without creating unnecessary financial pressure.

At the end of the day, we believe every couple deserves a wedding day they can be proud of, and it’s a privilege for Liliana and me to help make that happen every day.

What are your plans for the future?
One of the biggest changes we’re excited about is a new direction in our marketing strategy.

After helping more than 5,000 couples get married, we’ve learned that our happiest couples are our best ambassadors. They have actually experienced the Walk-in Wedding Chapel firsthand, so they’re uniquely qualified to tell others what the experience was really like.

That’s why we’re launching a new referral and rewards program specifically for couples who have been married at our chapel. When one of our married couples joins the program and refers someone who books a wedding with us, we’ll share 20% of the wedding revenue with them. That’s the same money that many businesses would normally spend on advertising and marketing.

We love this approach because it rewards the people who know our chapel best. Instead of relying solely on advertisements, we’re empowering real couples to share their real experiences with friends, family, coworkers, and their communities.

Beyond that, we’re continuing to improve and refine the wedding experience itself. Our mission remains the same: helping couples have an elegant, stress-free, affordable wedding experience through our unique 5-in-1 versatility of chapel, officiant, coordination, music, and photography.

We’re also excited about continuing to grow together as a family business. Liliana and I genuinely enjoy serving couples and helping them celebrate one of the most important days of their lives.

Looking ahead, our goal isn’t simply to perform more weddings. It’s to create more great experiences, help more couples start strong, and build a community of couples who believe marriage is worth celebrating.
