Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerrie Hileman.
Hi Kerrie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into bridal was actually a bit unexpected. I started my career as a CPA but I always felt a pull toward something more creative and people-focused. When I got engaged, I fell in love with the bridal experience but at the same time, I had some moments that let me down and left me disappointed, which is the last thing a bride should feel during that special time in her life! I realized that what I was looking for was something that was missing in the market. I made the decision to leave my accounting career and open a bridal boutique that offered a personal and more elevated experience for brides. What I wanted for The White Magnolia was to create a space where brides feel seen, heard, supported and celebrated, since it is an incredibly meaningful moment. Since 2010, I’ve met my now business partner, Mallory Thorburn, and we’ve grown the company to nine locations across the U.S. and started a franchise brand called Magnolia Laine Bridal.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Leaving a stable career to start something completely new was a huge leap! Coming from a CPA background, I understood the numbers, but retail, especially bridal, can be meticulous. In the beginning, it was most challenging figuring everything out in real-time. Forecasting inventory, managing cash flow while carrying high-cost gowns and making buying decisions seasons in advance all came with a steep learning curve. There were also challenges as I chose to expand the business. Scaling from one boutique to multiple locations requires a completely different level of structure and expansion is hard to navigate, especially when it’s in a new market. It’s one thing to successfully open a business, but to do it all over again in a community that you may know nothing about and aren’t familiar with, requires a big leap of faith. What works in one city might not translate to another, so there is constant adjustment. Like most entrepreneurs, there have been long hours, plenty of moments of uncertainty and lots of tough decisions along the way, but I have never stopped believing in what we were building and that’s the most important part.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The White Magnolia Bridal Collection?
The White Magnolia is a luxury bridal boutique focused on creating a highly personalized, one-on-one shopping experience for brides. We specialize in thoughtfully curated designer gowns that feel both fashion-forward and timeless, and we’re known for offering unique styles that can’t be found everywhere. What really sets us apart is the experience. From the moment a bride walks through our doors, everything is designed to feel intentional, relaxed and celebratory. We prioritize connection and take the time to understand each bride’s vision, style and personality, so the process feels meaningful rather than overwhelming. I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built around how we make people feel. It’s not just about the dress, it’s about creating a moment that brides remember forever. We’ve also built an incredible team and culture, which is such a huge part of delivering that consistent experience across all of our locations. At the end of the day, we’re not just selling gowns, we’re helping women step into one of the most important moments of their lives with confidence and excitement.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
For me, I’d say intention and adaptability. Coming from a different career and learning a new one required me to learn quickly, take risks but remain open to change. However, at the same time, there are frequent times when you’re faced with new opportunities and challenges and it’s easy for the overall picture to become fuzzy and there can be lots of unknowns. Staying true to the vision has been the key for me making the right decisions for the company along the way. I knew from my own shopping experience what I wanted us to provide brides. How they would feel when they stepped in our boutiques and the kind of experience they would walk away with was, and still is, at the core of everything we do. Our intention is providing that meaningful experience and helping brides to have their best “yes” moment!
