Today we’d like to introduce you to Swancia Brunson.
Hi Swancia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always done hair since my teenage years for extra money. In my early 20’s One of my clients told me I should go to cosmetology school and I finally did. I was licensed for five years before I opened Bombshell. I opened a salon because I wanted a team of women who respected and appreciated one another. I wanted a Christian environment to spread love and beauty. I’ve been open and operational for 14 years. Glory to God.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some challenges I faced were finding stylist who fit the profile, managing my time, staying encouraged and covid. Covid wasn’t a super hard time but the ripple effects after Covid changed how people spend their money. That took some redirection, but I also have a back ground in business administration. You have to continue your education in the direction you want to go. I’ve also written two books to help other hairstylists on this journey. One book is about the business and the other is about the perfecting the silk press.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bombshell Beauty salon?
We’ve been open for 14 years in Murray hill, we specialize in healthy hair care, extensions and the silk press. What sets us apart is we have good customer service and we care for the hair. We still provide a lot of services that other salons don’t. We still treat our clients hair and provide shampoo and condition for every service. I’m most proud how we treat our clients well and educate them about their hair and products.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I creative and fun. I loved the beach or anything to do with water. I’ve always kept a small friend circle. I’ve always been a hard worker even in my early teens, I had a fun time job in high school.
