Meet Miles Cooper of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miles Cooper.

Hi Miles, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started off as a bouncer here in Jacksonville, I crossed paths with several amazing DJs, including Omy The DJ, Teezy McGrady, and NickFresh. Given my lifelong love for music, I asked them all “what sparked your interest in DJing?” and with that found that our stories all started off similar. Music was an huge part of their lives, causing them to explore it further, a path I had also taken. NickFresh one of the DJs I spoke with told me, “Just do it! Get a laptop, get a little controller nothing crazy and see what you think.” And so I did! What started as an enjoyable pastime evolved into a huge part of my life, and a constant road of discovery, as I uncovered various aspects of music. I wanted to share this with my friends and family through small get-togethers and celebrations. I even asked my amazing fiancé Kevin for challenges and they pushed me to experiment with song mixes, blends, and mashups. With time my love for DJing cause me to look into performing at clubs, bars, concerts, and similar events. I then hosted a dance party at RootDown Jax for a while it was definitely a significant milestone, contributing to my development as a skilled DJ and paving the way for opportunities at Hoptingers, BarTaco, The Block Jax, and a collaborative event in St Augustine with NickFresh, a key figure in my growth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being completely honest, my optimism will always get the best of me and I will say yes the road has been pretty smooth. Yes there were some hiccups, there were some changes that had to be made, whether it’s my sleep schedule, daily routine, or decisions life or work related. Being a DJ on the outside perspective can be looked at as a “Person who plays good music, and does good tricks with music” in reality being a DJ is a small business that has to be taken care of. If we play the comparison game, look at your favorite retailer. The retailer has to advertise who they are and what they have. DJs have to promote themselves, post videos, and upload mixes. Retailers have to restock and stay up to date with trends. DJs constantly have to stay up to date with music, and trends. Retailers tend to update stock based on results, what sold well, what hasn’t. DJs have to cater for the crowd.
So yeah, the road itself to be able to DJ different places, and DJ for different people can be a little bumpy in some places, and smooth in others. But I will say, my patience and love for DJing has definitely caused me to see this road as something fun.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an open format DJ who plays at different venues flexibility is definitely a big part of the game. There is no such thing as “one size fits all.” While one venue may enjoy this era or type of music, this other venue may not. Being able to adapt and cater to whoever I’m playing for is something I’m definitely known for. While people can enjoy a high energy side of me at one venue, they can see me else where and still have a great time and the energy may be much calmer. I’m known in my flexibility for sure!

Some places might have mixed crowds, some want to dance till they can’t dance anymore, and some want to sing at the top of their lungs, I will always find a song to play, and I will always find a way to play said songs to make sure both sides enjoy themselves.

I also want to take a second to thank my family and friends who have had my back along this rapidly growing journey. I started back in August of 2025 and here we are May of 2026, in less than a year my hard work, late nights of studying, and practicing has paid off. I’ve accumulated a few residencies, played for grand openings, weddings, on big stages, and for all ages. I’m definitely proud of myself for this.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
As a child my parents were always taking me to visiting my aunt, my grandparents, and my cousins. There were always family get-togethers and parties. And one thing that was a big part of it was music was playing for the time we arrive to the time we leave. At some part no matter what the occasion was, a dance contest was bound to happen. Trust and believe I was thrown into the soul train lines, or even the circle if I was battling a cousin. During one family reunion my older cousins being the support amazing hype-men and hype-women that they are, telling me about a cousin I had from up north who’s a great dancer supposedly called me out (not sure how true it was, but I was not backing down from a challenge).

Simply put, I defended my title as the dancer of the family. You could not tell me I wasn’t a Jabbawockee back in the day!
