Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Grigorchuk.
Hi Nadia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I discovered my love for flowers at a young age. Growing up in Portland, I began spending weekends helping our neighbors who sold flowers by processing and cleaning blooms. After a few months, they trusted me to start creating bouquets, and that’s where my passion for floral design truly began.
Later, after moving to Vancouver, I enrolled in a floral design class in high school where I learned the basic techniques of floral arranging, design, and creativity. I also joined the National FFA Organization, where I competed and continued learning more about plants and floral design.
At just 16 years old, with our floral class I did my first wedding. From there, I began creating flowers for family, friends, weddings, and special events — including all of the florals for my own wedding.
After getting married in 2007 and moving to Jacksonville, I officially began building my floral business while also growing our family. What started from home slowly grew through years of hard work, creativity, and experience designing for weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and personal occasions.
A few months ago, I made one of my biggest dreams a reality by transitioning from working at home into opening my own floral boutique on Atlantic Boulevard. Looking back, flowers have been part of my life for so many years, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to create meaningful designs and be part of people’s most special moments.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all — and I think that’s true for almost any floral business. Working with fresh flowers comes with so many moving parts and so many unknowns. There is a lot of planning, preparation, and stress that goes into every event, all while hoping and praying the flowers arrive fresh, beautiful, and exactly as expected.
One of the biggest challenges in this industry is that not everything can be planned ahead. Sometimes flowers arrive damaged, late, or not up to standard, but even in those moments, you still have to make it happen. You have to stay creative, problem solve quickly, and make everything come together beautifully for the client no matter what happens behind the scenes.
Over the years, I’ve learned to trust the process and work through the unexpected — through hard work, late nights, and unplanned situations. Even though things don’t always go smoothly, every obstacle has become a learning experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally.
At the same time, building a business while being a full-time mom of four comes with its own challenges. Balancing family life, weddings, events, deadlines, and everyday responsibilities hasn’t always been easy, but it has taught me strength, patience, and perseverance. Looking back, I’m incredibly thankful for the experience I’ve gained and everything I’ve learned along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a floral designer with a passion for creating beautiful, meaningful pieces using what’s right in front of me. That’s one of the reasons I especially love designing Designer’s Choice arrangements — having the freedom to work with the freshest, most beautiful flowers available and creating something unique that people can enjoy longer is truly one of my favorite parts of being a florist.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on weddings, corporate events, floral classes, and everyday florals, and I genuinely enjoy every part of the creative process. Each event and arrangement is different, which keeps my work inspiring and meaningful.
But beyond the events and designs, floristry has also become a ministry for me. About nine years ago, I started a project through my church called Love In Action. It began with a floral class where women gathered together to create bouquets that we later delivered to widows in our church community. Over the years, it grew into hosting special gatherings where widows could create their own floral arrangements, enjoy fellowship, and simply feel loved and celebrated.
We’ve also hosted parties for families of children with special needs, where the mothers were able to take time for themselves, create beautiful arrangements, and experience joy through the process. Seeing the smiles, peace, and encouragement these moments bring to others has become one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
What sets me apart is not only my experience in floral design, but the heart behind it. For me, flowers are more than decorations — they are a way to serve, encourage, comfort, and bring beauty into people’s lives. Being able to create with my hands while also impacting others in a meaningful way is something I feel deeply thankful to God for every single day.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Over the years, there have been so many people who have been a blessing and played an important role in my journey. My husband has been my number one supporter through it all. He has seen every side of this business — the beautiful moments, the stressful moments, the late nights, and even the tears that sometimes come with it. Through every season, he has continued to encourage and support me while helping me pursue this dream.
I’ve also been blessed with amazing friends and teammates who have worked alongside me through weddings, events, and countless projects. Their creativity, hard work, encouragement, and willingness to help bring visions to life have meant so much over the years. Building a business is never something you do alone, and I’m incredibly thankful for the people who have stood beside me throughout the journey.
But above all, my greatest source of strength and support comes from my faith in Jesus Christ. Through every challenge, uncertainty, and accomplishment, He has been the one who gives me peace, strength, wisdom, and the ability to keep going. I truly believe every opportunity and blessing along the way has been guided by Him, and I’m deeply thankful for that.
