Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Blanton.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my art career as a fine art and commercial photographer, specializing in manipulated SX70 Polaroids. In 2008 when the recession hit I was always thwarted by Polaroids decision to stop manufacturing that type of film.
I began painting in 2011 and got a commission to do a cycling race piece which sent me into the current focus on my work which is Sports Paintings.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an artist is never a “smooth road”. It requires a lot of patience and endurance. But mostly it requires a lot of BELIEF that you have something to say and a unique way of stating it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I focus on the energy of athletes in racing and independent self belief. The work try’s to convey the human spirit and the energy of competition and excellency.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Making work that I would want to have in my own home. Continually trying to get better in professional and personal ways.
