Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Chunn.
Hi Marissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We Rock the Spectrum has been a part of the Jacksonville community for TEN years this year! Marissa & Lea opened the sensory gym in 2016 to create a play space for children with ALL abilities to have safe space to learn through play! They are both Board Certified Behavior Analysts who worked in the traditional therapy space and envisioned a place where they could combine the science of Behavior Analysis with physical sensory play!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
WRTS JAX has navigated several challenges in their 10 years in the community, the largest being in 2020 with the pandemic. We were able to provide respite care for first responders with children during that time for free through our non-profit charity, My Brother Rocks the Spectrum Foundation, and opened our mobile sensory bus, We Rock on Wheels, to reach our special needs community who needed their sensory diets fulfilled.
We’ve been impressed with We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym Jacksonville, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym is an indoor sensory playground for all ages and all abilities have access to specialized sensory equipment to engage in physical play and work on social skills with peers Ina safe, sensory friendly environment.
How do you define success?
We believe success is watching children grow in the gym through play! Making new friends, hosting first birthday parties with friends, reaching developmental milestones in the gym .. all big accomplishments for our kids!
