Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Turner.
Rebecca, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We were customers for 3 years at The Poppin Box and loved everything about it. When the founders were ready to retire and move to GA, they asked our family if we would buy the shop and grow it. We were shocked! We never imagined doing anything like this. We talked to our children about what this would look like for our family, we prayed about it, we sought Godly counsel, and after 2 months we finally said yes. We just celebrated 4 years of ownership in December of 2025, and we look forward to many more years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our first Christmas season was a struggle because we didn’t know what we were getting into. December is the busiest month of the year – where we sell 3 months’ worth of products in 3 weeks. We were working 11 hour days 6 days a week. We missed all our family traditions because we worked so much and were so tired. Once we passed that first couple of seasons, we learned to make adjustments that allowed us to enjoy the season again.
Nurturing and growing a small business in a soft economy has also been a challenge, which has led us to come up with creative marketing, products, and activities to drive business to our shop. No business is a smooth road all the time, but the journey the road takes you on leads you to wonderful encounters with people and places you never could image, and that is worth all the potholes along the road.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We handcraft popcorn from the kernel up with only the best quality ingredients. With over 65 flavors, there is something for everyone! Along with our popcorn, we also have homemade fudge, candied nuts, specialty sodas, slushies, and more candy than you can imagine. There are a lot of places where you can go and get candy, sodas, and such, BUT what sets us apart is our CUSTOMER SERVICE. I like to say this is the happiest place on earth north of Orlando. 🙂 If you don’t come in our shop with a smile, you will for sure leave with a smile. We pride ourselves in greeting you as if you are family, making you feel like you just “came home”, and wanting you to be thinking about your next visit by the time you leave.
We specialize in “marketing branding bags”. This is where we take a business’ logo, put is on a clear popcorn zipper bag, match the colored popcorn to the colors of the logo, and magic is created when it is all put together! Each color popcorn is a different flavor, and just as smell triggers memories- so does taste! The next time someone taste, for example, orange and vanilla, they will remember someone brought them a bag of popcorn. They will think …”who was that? Oh, it was a lady who sold advertisements.” So now, every time that person eats orange flavor, they will think of the advertisement rep.
What I am most proud of is that we are a light in our community, which we felt as we were voted #1 at Bold City’s Best in 2025 for best Candy and Chocolatier shop and placed 2nd for best birthday party venue. We bring hope and happiness by offering not just a friendly environment where people feel loved, but also by all our events we provide, such as summertime story time every Monday in June and July, Spring Fling, Back-to-School Bash, and a night with Santa at our Jingle Jamboree. We also play a big part in the surrounding schools and the families in the area. I love being known as The Popcorn Lady!
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One of my favorite things to do is to take naps or to have a lazy morning laying in bed reading and drinking coffee. However, this never happens because I am busy working.
