Hi Jason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The story of “A Silly Patch” is one born out of a simple, yet profound, personal need. How to secure my medical device and make it look cool.
I am a graphic designer and Type 1 Diabetic and I grew frustrated with the limitations of my device and the ability for it to stay on my body and make it look better then a science project with tape everywhere just to keep it secured. I want to live an active life.
Living in Florida, I love swimming, being at the beach, and staying active. My continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and insulin pump infusion sites were not built for that lifestyle. They constantly fell off. My initial attempts to secure them using generic bandages were functional. Yet, they were “ugly.” This made me feel conspicuous and constrained by his medical devices.
This daily struggle sparked an idea: why couldn’t a my device be both secure and stylish?
Driven by this vision, I used my professional skills to create a solution that blended purpose with flair. The development process involved:
Material Science: I researched various options. I selected a specific 3M hypoallergenic, water-resistant medical tape. This tape is known for being safe on the skin. 3M material is also durable enough to withstand vigorous activity for days at a time.
Creative Design: I created unique “sketch designs.” I moved beyond plain medical tape. I offer a range of fun, artistic patterns for adults and children alike. This restored a sense of personal style.
Real-World Testing: I became the primary user. I ensured my patches were reliable for everyday active life. This ranged from running and exercise to a casual swim.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Many Challenges have been overcome with the help of my profound problem solving skills and design ideas that I adapt to make my products function.

I make cute designed stickers for medical devices. Some are basic in design with no colors just function and others have designs for boys, girls and adults. I also make custom designs, so if you want a picture of your dog or anything I can put that on a patch for your medical device.
Not only am I the owner creator and designer I also wear these patches everyday of my life as I am a fellow Type One Diabetic.
