Hi Shawntrell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a dedicated nurse with over 17 years of experience serving others through healthcare and education. In 2021, I launched Tiny Hands Academy with a vision to provide extended childcare hours for healthcare workers. However, opening during the COVID-19 pandemic presented unexpected challenges, including staffing shortages and a shift in family needs as many began working from home. Rather than stepping back, I continued to move forward. So, I transitioned to traditional childcare hours and focused on building a high-quality, nurturing program. Today, Tiny Hands Academy is a trusted and thriving center where families feel confident leaving their children in a safe, structured environment supported by trained and compassionate staff.
Beyond childcare, I am the author of The Nurse That Looks Like Me, created to inspire representation in healthcare, and the founder of Infuse Scrubs, a brand designed to combine style, comfort, and professionalism.
My journey reflects resilience, adaptability, and a deep commitment to my community. Through healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship, I strive to create meaningful impact and inspire others to pursue their purpose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has not been easy and I have faced many challenges, including navigating difficult hiring processes, finding and retaining the right staff, managing complex parent situations, and overcoming obstacles during the build out and opening of the center but each challenge has strengthened my leadership and commitment to providing quality childcare.

Tiny Hands Academy is a quality early childcare center located in the southside of Jacksonville, Florida, serving children from ages one to school-age, we offer full-time, part-time, VPK, and after-school programs.
We specialize in creating a nurturing, and structured environment where children can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. What sets us apart is our commitment to smaller class sizes, individualized attention, and a strong focus on school readiness.
With zero DCF violations since opening in 2021, recognition as a Best of Florida 2025 childcare provider and an Excellent VPK Program, we are proud of the reputation we’ve built in our community.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that resilience is everything. There will always be challenges and unexpected setbacks, but staying committed to your vision and pushing through those obstacles is what truly defines your success.
