Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Brown.
Hi Kenneth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with a fascination for motorcycles at a young age. My grandfather rode, which first sparked my interest. In high school, a friend taught me how to ride, but I didn’t stay with it and went many years without riding.
Later on, I mentioned to my wife that I was interested in getting back into it, and she encouraged me to pursue it. Not long after, a friend asked if I’d consider becoming a rider coach. I attended a class and observed how instructors taught new riders, and I was immediately hooked.
I’ve always loved both teaching and riding motorcycles, and becoming a rider coach gave me the opportunity to combine the two. It’s been a passion ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road—there are always challenges. As times and technology continue to evolve, we have to adapt and adjust to keep up. One of the biggest challenges has been finding the balance between traditional teaching methods and the newer ways the state requires information to be delivered.
For many of our older students, these changes can be especially difficult. Adjusting to new technology while learning to ride can feel overwhelming at times. As an instructor, it’s important for me to bridge that gap—blending the old and new approaches in a way that keeps the learning process accessible, effective, and supportive for everyone.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Gainesville Motorcycle Safety Training School has proudly been in business for over 20 years, with new ownership bringing fresh energy and perspective over the past five years. We provide the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course required by the state of Florida for students to earn their motorcycle endorsement.
Our program offers training for both two-wheel and three-wheel motorcycle endorsements, giving students the skills and confidence they need to ride safely. We want every student to know that if they have basic skills pertaining to balance, and are willing to build from there, we can teach them how to properly ride a motorcycle.
Our coaches are both state- and nationally certified to teach the MSF Basic Rider Courses for two-wheel and three-wheel motorcycles. With a strong focus on safety, patience, and hands-on instruction, we are committed to helping every student succeed and become a confident rider.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
There are several books that have helped shape and guide the way I approach both teaching and life. One that had a strong impact on me is “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins. It reinforces the idea that we are capable of far more than we often believe, and that mental toughness and discipline can push us beyond our perceived limits. Discipline plays a huge role in our day-to-day lives, and this book really drove that home for me.
Another influential book is “Mindset” by Carol Dweck. It explores the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. A growth mindset is built on the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence, while a fixed mindset assumes those traits are static and unchangeable.
I believe I’ve embraced a growth mindset in both my personal life and as an instructor. It challenges me to stay open to new ideas and continuously improve. I’ve come to believe that anything you put consistent and genuine effort into will teach you something valuable—whether the outcome is success or failure, both provide equally important lessons.
