Community Highlights: Meet William Rivera of Original Gorilla Trucking

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Rivera.

Hi William, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got into trucking because I saw the opportunity in logistics, especially in intermodal here in Jacksonville. What started as a stepping stone at another company many years ago, turned into something bigger once I realized how much control you can have when you understand the business side – rates, customers, operations.
I built Original Gorilla from the ground up, learning the hard way – equipment, breakdowns, dealing with customers, managing costs. It wasn’t overnight, but it forced me to become sharp in every area of the business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge is that trucking looks simple from the outside, but it’s not. Fuel spikes, insurance changes, equipment issues – one bad week can wipe out your profit if you’re not disciplined.
I’ve had trucks shut down unexpectedly, dealt with rising costs, and had to make tough calls to keep the business moving. Those situations forced me to tighten operations and think long-term instead of just chasing loads.
I’m proud that we’ve built something real from scratch. No shortcuts, no overnight success-just consistent work and learning from mistakes.
A lot of people get into trucking and burn out. We’re still here, still growing, and still improving. That says a lot.

As you know, we’re big fans of Original Gorilla Trucking. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We focus on reliability and accountability. In intermodal, timing is everything-missing a container or delay can cost a customer real money.
I run a tight operation and stay involved. We’re not a huge fleet, so we can move fast, communicate clearly, and make sure the job gets done right the first time.
You can check us out at originalgtrucking.com or reach out directly – we’re always open to building new relationships.
The goal is to continue growing strategically-adding equipment the right way, building stronger relationships with direct customers, and improving efficiency across the board.
I’m focused on building something long-term, not just chasing short-term gains.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t jump in thinking it’s easy money. Learn the business first-costs, lanes, customers.
If you’re not disciplined, this industry will expose you quickly. But if you stay consistent and treat it like a real business, there’s a lot of opportunity. Also, and very important, get yourself a team that shares your vision. That’s key.
