Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelita Wright-Foster.
Hi Kelita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is rooted in resilience, purpose, and a deep commitment to uplifting others.
I was raised with strong values instilled by my mother, who was a trailblazer in our community. She taught me the importance of education, hard work, and treating people with dignity and respect lessons that have guided me throughout my life. Growing up, I learned early on that challenges don’t define you how you respond to them does.
My professional journey has always been centered around service and empowerment. I’ve had the honor of breaking barriers, including becoming the first Black individual to spearhead a Job Readiness Program in Southwest Georgia. That experience allowed me to help individuals gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to secure and maintain employment, and it confirmed my passion for creating pathways for others.
Over time, that passion evolved into something greater. I founded Black Excellence Empowerment Inc., a nonprofit organization built on the pillars of Advocacy, Community, and Education. My goal was to create a space where women feel supported, inspired, and equipped to reach their full potential. Through mentorship, life skills development, and community engagement, we are building a legacy of empowerment and excellence.
Along the way, I’ve remained deeply connected to my community serving, volunteering, and partnering with organizations that align with my mission. Whether it’s supporting women and families, advocating for survivors of domestic violence, or creating programs that promote growth and self-sufficiency, my work is driven by purpose.
Today, I stand as a woman, wife, mother, grandmother, leader, and survivor grateful for every step of the journey. My story is still being written, but if there’s one thing I hope people take away, it’s that your past does not limit your future. With faith, determination, and a willingness to serve, you can turn your experiences into impact. I am also a member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Nu Chapter in Jacksonville, FL.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Like many journeys rooted in purpose, mine has come with its share of challenges and obstacles.
There were moments of self-doubt, limited resources, and times when doors didn’t open as expected. Building something from the ground up especially a nonprofit requires not only vision, but persistence, sacrifice, and faith. There were seasons when I had to pour into others while still navigating my own personal and professional challenges behind the scenes.
I’ve also faced the realities that come with being a woman in leadership, particularly in spaces where representation matters. At times, I had to work twice as hard to be heard, respected, and taken seriously. But those experiences didn’t break me they strengthened me.
One of the most defining aspects of my journey has been overcoming adversity and turning pain into purpose. Instead of allowing setbacks to stop me, I used them as fuel to keep going and to create opportunities not just for myself, but for others as well.
Through it all, my faith, my family, and my commitment to serving my community have kept me grounded. Every challenge has helped shape the woman and leader I am today, and I wouldn’t trade those lessons for anything.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Professionally, my work is centered around empowerment, workforce development, and community impact. I am the Founder and CEO of Black Excellence Empowerment Inc., where I specialize in creating programs that equip women and young ladies with life skills, mentorship, and the tools needed to thrive personally and professionally. Our focus is rooted in Advocacy, Community, and Education, and everything we do is designed to build confidence, resilience, and self-sufficiency.
I am also known for developing and leading job readiness and workforce development initiatives. Being the first Black individual to spearhead a Job Readiness Program in Southwest Georgia is something I take great pride in. That work has helped individuals gain employment, increase their earning potential, and build sustainable futures for themselves and their families.
What I’m most proud of is the impact seeing lives transformed, confidence restored, and women stepping into their purpose. Whether it’s through mentorship, speaking, or program development, I’ve been blessed to help others see their value and walk boldly in it.
What sets me apart is my authenticity and lived experience. I don’t just teach empowerment I’ve lived it. I lead with compassion, resilience, and a genuine desire to serve. I understand the challenges many women face because I’ve faced them too, and that allows me to connect, inspire, and lead in a way that is both real and impactful. I’m not just building programs I’m building people, legacy, and lasting change in the community.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that might surprise people is that, while I’m often seen as a strong and confident leader, I’ve had moments in my journey where I had to quietly rebuild myself from the inside out. There were seasons where I was pouring into others while still healing, growing, and finding my own strength.
Another thing many people may not know is how deeply hands-on I am behind the scenes. From program development to administrative work, I’ve worn many hats to ensure that everything aligned with the vision and mission. What people see publicly is only a portion of the work it’s the unseen dedication, late nights, and personal sacrifices that truly built the foundation.
I’m also very grounded in faith and reflection, and I value stillness just as much as action. While I’m passionate about serving and being present in the community, I also cherish quiet moments that allow me to reset, refocus, and stay aligned with my purpose.
At the core, beyond the titles and leadership roles, I’m simply someone who believes in people sometimes even before they believe in themselves.
