Check Out Kenajawa Lashawn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenajawa Lashawn.

Hi Kenajawa , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Kenajawa Lashawn a creative, influencer, and mental health advocate who survived 5 suicide attempts. Anxiety and depression plagued my life since I was a teen. Now that I am healed I am an advocate for mental health awareness for people who had experiences like me. My trauma stemmed from my childhood. I didn’t have a strong familial foundation, a mom addicted to drugs, an abusive father among other strained family dynamics. However, with God, building up my faith and finding a tribe of people who loved me and accepted me for who I am, I found my purpose, no longer have thoughts of suicide, and learned how to cope with my feelings of abandonment and rejection. My mission is to help women, creatives, and influencers alike, heal from their childhood trauma, recognize where their voids are, and build a relationship with God so they can fill those holes and love themselves again. My primary focus is to help these people find joy in life again, combat any negative thoughts that are holding them back, and break free from bondage. Kenajawa Lashawn is a Digital Marketing Strategist and Owner of KL Innovations Co., a Digital Marketing Company. Her goal is to use her passion for writing, marketing expertise, and creativity to help brands and businesses to develop an authentic connection with their audiences by developing an effective communication system. Since a young girl all that she wanted to do was help others, she went down many paths trying to fulfill that goal, in the end they led her to one place, God. And through that God helped her find her place in the world, and her way to help her other Boss Friends aka You!

In 2020, her “I’m Showing Up” movement was born. This movement is a ministry to help provide light to young christians struggling with identity issues, brokenness, and fear to start Showing Up. Kenajawa has accomplished a lot at such a young age. She is a 3 time published author. Her writings have been featured in magazines, anthologies, and author collaborations. She has appeared on I-heart Radio, and was coined, “The Voice for the Young Folks”. In 2021, she was honored as an award recipient at Blue Skies Foundation’s Survivor Gala, and named “The Petite Powerhouse”. She is a two time Nominee for the ACHI Magazine award for, “Orator of The Year, and Woman on the Rise”.

“The essence of Who I AM, is simply a woman who loves God, and in everything I do I first serve him! I now know I was chosen by God to influence the world, and whether that world consists of 1 or 1 million, I want to pursue it with all the power that God has equipped me with. I believe that life is a journey, and one we shouldn’t take alone, so let’s take this journey together”.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road; the road to healing is ugly, and it takes a lot of facing yourself in the mirror. Healing isn’t perfect; sometimes it may take a few times to learn a lesson, and it may take time to learn the healed version of yourself. If I be honest my mind was the biggest obstacle, trauma has a way of distorting making you feel things about yourself that are not true, so getting to a space where my mind did not operate in survival mode was the hardest hurdle to overcome.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I help people show up again.

My work is rooted in helping creatives heal from the things that tried to silence them: trauma, depression, identity struggles, and guiding them back to their voice, their truth, and their purpose.

I create spaces and conversations where people can be honest about what they’re carrying, without shame, and begin to process it through both a mental health and faith-based lens. Whether it’s through content, community, or live experiences, everything I do centers on one thing: helping people stop surviving in silence and start living in truth.

I’m known for my ability to take what people feel but don’t know how to say, and put language to it.

A lot of the people I serve have been “functioning” for a long time… showing up, serving, even leading, but internally, they’re overwhelmed, disconnected, or fighting battles they haven’t named. I help bring awareness to those internal experiences in a way that feels seen, not judged, and that’s where real healing can begin.

What I’m most proud of is that my work gives people permission to come out of hiding.

I’ve had people tell me that something I said helped them stay, helped them speak, helped them finally acknowledge what they’ve been carrying. That’s not something I take lightly. This isn’t just content for me, it’s life work.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just talk about healing… I’ve lived it.

I’m not speaking from theory. I’m speaking from real moments, real struggles, and a real decision to show up anyway. So when I show up, it’s not polished perfection, it’s honesty, it’s depth, and it’s an invitation for others to do the same.

Because healing doesn’t start when everything is together…

It starts when you finally tell the truth.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Most of all, my sunflower baby that the internet affectionately knows as “nugget”. He was definitely the rainbow after a terrible storm and a promise kept. He is joy in human form for me. Outside of that, a simple answer: seeing others happy makes me happy. If there is even a small thing that I can do to make a person’s day, even a stranger.
