Conversations with Ashlyn Justice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Justice.

Hi Ashlyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in the event industry in college, serving on the catering team at a very fancy venue in Pittsburgh on weekends and summer to earn extra money. I moved to Florida after graduation and continued to work in the wedding industry as a female officiant marrying couples eloping on the beach. I also freelanced with a wedding florist. I then pitched the idea to a wedding planner to build a mini brand under hers for wedding coordination and did that for many years. After a few years, I started by own wedding and event planning business and in between had 3 sons in 5 years. Today, I am full time in my business and raising my boys.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had many challenges, most of them being that everything takes longer than I want it to especially being a mom to a baby, 3, and 5 year old. I work lots of early mornings, nap times, and late nights but I wouldn’t trade it for anything because I am so passionate about all I do and create.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and event planner and also do florals and small rentals to create an inclusive events. I specialize in events that curate a custom experience for guests and the hosts. I plan based off of the host’s favorite place, food, interest, quirk and infuse every event with personality that makes everyone leave saying that was so them! I am known for taking a vanilla idea and turning it into a red velvet experience, hence the name Red Velvet Collective. I am most proud of the care that I put into each experience and how close I am with my clients that trust me with their best days ever. What sets us apart is our personality driven events and our white sock service, which is our spin on white sock service where we have literally given the socks off our feet for a bride forgetting hers for the afterparty. We truly do whatever it takes. We make it fun and calm the crazy. We care.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
That people feel seen, heard, understood, and celebrated for who they are and not who Pinterest or instagram tells them to be.
