Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Brady of Kids Can Be Kids Indoor Playground

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Brady.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our story actually starts on Facebook, after a beautiful Sunday church service Pat and I were headed to the beach with our three girls in the back seat. Pat was driving, I was scrolling on facebook and came across a post saying Kids Can Be Kids was for sale. I showed Pat the post as we were sitting in the Harris Teeter parking lot and he said to me “do you want to go see it?”. I said “no its not the right time for us to be buying a business”, so we headed to the beach and it started it rain, he looks at me again and says “let’s go see it we’re already on the island”. So we went and the rest is pretty much history. Here we are just over 4 months in, we’ve created a warm community space for families to safely gather and let their kids play while the parents either work, chat with friends or sit on the floor and play with their kids. As a teacher, I have always loved being around children and I have always dreamed of owning an indoor playground. Little by little as we told friends and family, they kept saying “This is your dream”. I am a true believer that God really does work in mysterious ways and that the rain on the beach that day was no coincidence. My 3 daughters now join me at Kids Can Be Kids and get to see my dream come true.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been completely smooth, we’ve had to make some changes to how things were run, cosmetic updates and adding other streams of revenue. We are lucky to only be 4 months in and no longer facing these challenges.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kids Can Be Kids Indoor Playground?
Kids Can Be Kids is an indoor playground located on Amelia Island in Fernandina Beach Florida. We specialize in open play and birthday parties. The owner is a certified elementary school teacher who also runs homeschool pods and does privatized tutoring. I think a lot of things set us apart from other indoor playgrounds in the area. We offer birthday parties where you are renting the complete facility rather than a party room while other people are in. Another thing that sets us apart is that as a teacher and a mom it is easy for me to connect with my customers. We are family owned and operated so for the majority if you are here you will see either my husband or myself aside from Sundays when we are in church. We also offer homeschool pods where children who are homeschooled can come and meet other homeschoolers to work on social skills as well as academics, which is run by me the owner. Our brand has plans to add a coffee shop and expand into other locations. We are incredibly thankful for the community support as we’ve taken over as the new owners.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
The founders of Kids Can Be Kids have been nothing but helpful throughout the transition process and we are thankful to them for building Kids Can Be Kids and thankful that we can continue on their legacy and expand it.
