Rising Stars: Meet Jennifer Webb of Alachua County Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Webb.

Hi Jennifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
This is the story of Shakespeare Animal Fund, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit that was founded in Reno, NV in 2004, in memory of my beloved cocker spaniel Shakespeare. After he died I was devastated, and couldn’t have imagined how I would feel if I could have saved him but didn’t have the funds to get veterinary treatment. That’s when I founded Shakespeare Animal Fund. Our only mission, help people who can’t afford it–often elderly and disabled–get their suffering or dying pets the treatment they need.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We came close to running out of funds often. But thanks to grants and donors and tenacity, we are now going strong in two states, Nevada and Florida, and hope to expand soon to other counties in Florida. We have raised well over a million dollars and have gotten support from many other organizations like Comic Relief and Rachel Ray. We keep writing grants and creating events for name awareness and funding, all to help the animals.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a motivational speaker and author, but this isn’t about me. However it is about my dog, Shakespeare. I lived in Manhattan when he was a puppy and we walked the streets of the city together, he was a city dog. When he was older I moved to Reno, NV where he had grass around him for the first time.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Not specifically. I learned much when I started from the local Community Foundation, and have worked with a similar organization in Jacksonville. If anyone is interested in learning more about who we are and what we do, or interested in donating or sponsorship, please go to Shakespeareanimalfund.org. I can also be reached at jwebb.shakefund@gmail.com.
