Hi Altin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Altin Kosova, and I’m one of the founders of First Coast Wine & Brandy here in Jacksonville. I wanted to share a story we believe strongly aligns with Jax Voyage’s focus on culture, community, and the people shaping life on the First Coast.
Our story begins in Albania, where winemaking has been a family tradition for generations. From an early age, wine was part of daily life—rooted in craftsmanship, patience, and respect for the land. Those early experiences shaped my understanding of wine not just as a product, but as a cultural expression and a way to bring people together.
That foundation eventually carried me to Jacksonville, Florida, where I saw an opportunity to blend Old World tradition with a modern, craft-focused approach. Drawing from my family’s heritage, I set out to create a wine store centered on small-batch, thoughtfully made wines and the stories behind them. Building the business meant learning a new market, forming relationships with independent producers, and introducing customers to wines they might not encounter elsewhere.
Today, our brand reflects that journey—from Albania to Jacksonville—honoring tradition while embracing innovation. It’s about sharing authentic craft wines, creating community, and carrying a family legacy forward in a new place.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting a new wine store comes with its share of challenges, from navigating licensing requirements and managing inventory to building brand recognition in a competitive market. There were also early hurdles in understanding customer preferences and establishing consistent foot traffic. However, those challenges pushed me to adapt quickly, refine my vision, and focus on creating a welcoming, customer-focused experience. Each obstacle has ultimately strengthened the foundation of the business and shaped the store into what it is today.
We’ve been impressed with First Coast Wine and Brandy LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a craft wine store dedicated to small-batch, thoughtfully made wines that reflect real craftsmanship and a sense of place. Our focus is on wines that have character—wines you may not find everywhere, but ones that leave a lasting impression.
What sets us apart is our hands-on approach and personal connection to what we offer. Every wine in the store is carefully selected, tasted, and chosen with intention.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the community we’re building. The store has become a space where people can discover, learn, and connect over craft wine. More than just a retail shop, it’s a place that celebrates creativity, authenticity, and passion.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Authenticity. Staying true to the craft and the values behind it has been the most important factor in my success. From the wines I choose to carry to the way I connect with customers, everything is guided by a genuine respect for quality, storytelling, and the people behind each bottle. Being authentic builds trust, and that trust turns customers into a community. It allows the brand to grow in a way that feels honest, intentional, and sustainable.
