Hi VaNonda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Iam a retired professional hairstylist with more than 30 years of experience, and a heart rooted in service. I owned and operated Virtue Beauty Salon for 22 years and later became a foster mother, caring for several children in need. Through this deeply personal experience, I saw firsthand the emotional toll that haircare neglect and lack of access to proper maintenance products and grooming knowledge had on the youth in her care.
Motivated by love and purpose, I founded ActNUALEJ Inc. to ensure foster and displaced youth receive the haircare they need to feel seen, supported, and proud of who they are. I made sure to embed this notion to act, and with care, in the ActNUALEJ name. We Notice you, We Understand You, We Acknowledge You, We Love you, We Edify You, We Justify You
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our goal is to someday have a place for students to receive free hair cuts shampoo and hairstyles. Families that suffer financially do not have the funds for professional services. Our struggle is not having the donation support to accommodate them.. We also need more volunteers such as make-up artists, barbers, nail technician, and hair stylist to help with our prom program.

We are a local non-profit organization.called ActNUALEJ (pronounced Acknowledge), we’re nurturing confidence in youth, one head of hair at a time.
We provide free haircare services for youth in foster care, shelters, and underserved communities.
We understand the power that having healthy, great looking hair can have on self-esteem, individual expression, and the emotional well-being of our youth. Healthy hair and maintenance can come at a cost that those we serve just can’t afford.
Our hair care interventions are transforming lives long-term—and for the better.
What were you like growing up?
I love doing hair. I would play in my friends hair. I was told I had an old spirit. I was very mature and love hanging with older kids
